Download finally finished, shaders compiled, restarted and updated my graphic drivers, relaunched the game and… shaders compiling AGAIN. It’s been out for nearly two and a half hours and I haven’t even gotten to play it yet.

The gameplay is great, but I felt like the narrative was a little weaker than some of the others. AC4 was a simple story told in a novel way, while AC5 was a more complex story told in a more conventional way, and AC0 had more thematically. AC6, while serviceable, wasn’t as strong of a narrative.

I’ve always loved cats because while their love is conditional, those conditions are clearly defined and easily understood. Food, lap, pettings. I feel like if a cat loves me, then I’m doing something right. A cat’s purr is a signal that I am a good human.

It's amazing how for at least the first half hour or so of the game, the player isn't in any actual danger, yet the game is so intimidating just based solely on the intensity of the vibes it establishes in that brief beginning. It's a master class in setting a tone.

That was certainly a big day. I was eager to play it with my friends. For all the criticisms one could make about the launch version, it ran at a consistent frame rate on four different consoles spread across two generations, and I was damn proud I played a part in delivering that.
