Two things need to happen regarding the Cornell Seven: they need to be removed from society, and their families need to be punished for raising men like that. It would be elegant if we could do both things at once.

I’ve always loved cats because while their love is conditional, those conditions are clearly defined and easily understood. Food, lap, pettings. I feel like if a cat loves me, then I’m doing something right. A cat’s purr is a signal that I am a good human.

Like I don't think this is grasped nearly enough. We're not fighting major liberal and centrist politicians because of some obscure doctrinal issue. We're fighting them because *they're actively collaborating with fascism* and you don't defeat fascism without crushing collaborators.

We need a General Order 227 for Democrats. "Not one step back!" on trans-rights. I'd volunteer myself to be a commissar. Because if you give the opposition an inch on this, they'll take a mile, and mile by mile we would lose. This is our Volga and there is no land beyond it.

I remember classmates from middle-eastern families not coming to college for fear of misplaced reprisals. I remember the demands by jingoists to stick our metaphorical genitals into a beehive out of bloodlust. What I experienced in the aftermath of 9/11 was a bond fraying, not a bond being shared.

That was certainly a big day. I was eager to play it with my friends. For all the criticisms one could make about the launch version, it ran at a consistent frame rate on four different consoles spread across two generations, and I was damn proud I played a part in delivering that.

Something I once told a class of special needs kids that I was invited to speak to was, “You can use your condition to explain your behavior, but you should never use it to excuse your behavior.” The onus is on us know ourselves and know how we need to approach situations we might struggle with.

Categories are fake, there will always be weird edge cases where the boundaries fail, this is just a fact. The question is not "is this category REAL or TRUE" the question is "is this category USEFUL" because categories are tools, not features of the universe.

Some advice I remember reading was to never give your loyalty to institutions, because as a social fiction an institution is incapable of reciprocating that loyalty, but do give your loyalty to people, because people can repay your loyalty in kind. I try to take that to heart.

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.

Yeah, this. It's too easy to grant yourself a moral license for bad behavior when you self-identify as an kind of "good person." Just try to do good things and let others be the judge of whether that makes you a good ally or not.

I dream of a utopia where all children are born from synthetic uterine replicators and raised communally. Genetic selfishness will not be tolerated there. "But Colin, I have an overwhelming feeling of love when I hold my children!" We can replicate that feeling chemically. It's much more efficient.

I've heard it described as "the American gentry" and it forms the backbone of conservative politics in the United States. We need more politicians who are willing to pound the podium and talk about how we're going to break this policial class' stranglehold on rural power.

Related: the belief that stupid people tend to be bigoted is a reversal of cause and effect. Prejudice makes people stupider, because they'll be less inclined to learn from anyone they consider lesser, and resistant to data that contradicts their prejudices.

I’d say “Marathon” but we got another sequel recently after decades of that series lying fallow. Admittedly, it was a huge departure from the originals in terms of gameplay and tone, even if it technically exists in the same universe. But the original was a landmark for its time.

The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.
