Grief snucked up on me today during my workplace's cake party. Had a corner piece of an ube flavoured cake. Was happily savouring every bite until it reminded me of my late grandmother, who made ube jams from scratch during big family gatherings and gave to-go ones in Tupperware.

There's a lot of senior doctors, at least where I'm from, who think like this. They discourage not just their colleagues but even their students to remain apolitical and just "focus on their studies". Some don't even believe in burnout and mental health. 🤡

It's been 29 days since my grandmother passed away peacefully. My dad, the eldest among his 5 siblings, didn't really showed much emotions during her wake and burial. Much like his siblings and us, her grandchildren, were occupied organizing stuff and entertaining guests.

Some days, I still struggle to stay calm when interacting with patients who come to the outpatient clinic, and initial assessment shows they need to go to the nearest ER asap. It's the ones who are too stubborn to recognize the urgency of their situation that challenge me. 🫠
