The reality is that the biggest concern around higher speed micro-mobility devices (such as e-motos) is about the risk to the rider themselves, followed by pedestrians/other riders. But with cars the biggest risk is to those outside the cars (or other drivers). It's a different dynamic.

People love to scream "whataboutism" when you point out that cars are still more dangerous than e-bikes/e-motos/e-scooters. But it's not whataboutism to properly contextualize the risk, especially when we are seeing a moral panic that is not commensurate with the threat posed by e-micro mobility.

The reason so many of us get annoyed about conversations around e-bikes is that we are seeing cities and towns taking dramatic steps to try and curtail e-bike usage while they shrug at the daily carnage caused by cars. It's extra infuriating because e-bikes ARE REPLACING CARS.
