I was also here the first time Iceland ever avoided defeat to Scotland, the first time Italy ever won in Scotland, the moment Gibraltar scored their first competitive goal; both times Wales won World Cup qualifiers in Scotland and when Belgium beat us 4-0, waited 365 days, then beat us 4-0 again.

Scotland MNT match 99 for me. Andy Robertson's 101st. Considering I was at Kenny Dal's 100th cap, 40 years & 7 months ago, my tally's a bit pathetic. So I've resolved to go on til I've done one game more than Andy. Saw him play here for Queen's Park too. Billy Gilmour's 50th tonight. He'll get 200.

Third time seeing Slovenia. First time seeing them score. And the second time. And, after 22 years and a month, we're all square. Not on the night though. Their first ever win over Scotland. Love the Triglav kit. You have to. And they played some very nice football in it this time.

City waste £900M trying to out-evil Rangers (Nations League round-up)

Scotland:s first three Nations League games of 2026-27 and why Manchester City being caught cheating is absolutely or is absolutely not about Rangers as far as fans of Scottish club football are concerned.

Well, unless that's Blackpool, she's clearly found it.

John McGinn goes joint-fourth on our all-time scorers list. I'm happy for him for about ten minutes. Then I spend another five minutes hoping he gets at least three more to go clear third. Then it's back to Harry Kane has scored more than our top three scorers put together. For other underachievers.

When people bring up the UK's financial relationship with the UAE as "the reality" of the Man City situation, they mean let City off with it, don't they. This "yeah but" and "let's not be rash" tone demands a British Dynamo Berlin. And I've always been told we already have that at Ibrox.

First win for Pocognoli, and first goals, but his second clean sheet. In a week. Both achieved in the former Yugoslavia I say in an effort to puff it up a bit. A win, a draw and a loss in your first three games. So, on Tuesday we decide what kinda manager you are, Seb. NEVER TO CHANGE OUR MINDS!

021

Well done, Andy Robertson. Only the second Scottish man ever to get 100 caps. And to John McGinn. On the night he becomes only the third to win 92 caps, he becomes only the fifth to hit 22 goals. And, of course, if he doesn't score he's no use to us, say some of our willfully blind hacks.

Jeezus. Saka actually made an arse of that one. Kane's like "Hang on. Have another go" England laying down the marker when it comes to visiting former Yugoslav republics this Saturday night. Scotland haven't scored in four games, Ollie McBurnie hasn't scored in 18 caps: THE DAM BUSTS IN SKOPJE!

Also. The City case is far bigger, will have infinitely wider fallout, coz the Premier League is so ridiculously money-laden and the English domestic scene the most densely historic on Earth. But City will never face the fundamentalist hysteria we inspire, still warping the process of processing it.

Alex Anderson @fateck.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

The difference: Rangers owner was in financial trouble coz of the 2008 global crash and had made an arse of implementing a tax avoidance scheme at the club while Man City's owners have more money than anyone and made an arse of throwing it at Man City illegally. In sporting terms: both very bad.

Switzerland bagged. No-one can take that away from me. No-one. I've seen Switzerland's MNT and that's all that counts. That's everything. But has anyone else noticed how Shevchenko seems to be smirking in that Futbology badge? Like he's laughing at something. Or someone. SOMETHING TO SAY, MATE? EH?!

Alex Anderson @fateck.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Switzerland finally bagged, my most embarrassing omission on the MNT front. Uefa MNT No50 out of 55 and Futbology acknowledges this historic moment by awarding me a badge of the manager who won the last major finals match I attended, also at Hampden, where I also saw Sheva scoring. Low key ceremony.

It's time to start arresting Brexit politicians. "Misconduct in Public Office" is defined as abusing the public's trust, via deliberate wrong-doing that causes harm. Our leading politicians have all admitted they KNOW Brexit is harmful.

Bloody hell. Does this sound familiar or what. No two stories are ever exactly the same - and I dreaded the idea of petrodollar backing at Ibrox - but what Man City fans are about to go through could be triggering for Banter Years vets. The fact this fellah's addy translates as "I" feels apposite.

Alex Anderson @fateck.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Of all the horrors AI will perpetrate, surely letting it write subtitles for everything on telly is the worst. Neil McCauley tells Nate, "I need a new out laid on" Film 4 subtitles: "I need a new outlay line" And that's a beloved classic. What next? "2B or not too bees, rats biz digestion"

Steve Clarke (next Celtic manager, btw), won his first match in charge of the national team with a very exciting, late winner. Just saying. Scotland very expansive and progressive in the second half. Very competent performance. Long may it continue. #SVNSCO

020

Transformation in the second half. This game itself, either side of the break, became a metaphor for what we're hoping will happen with Pocognoli taking over from Clarke; building on a necessarily dour base of eeked-out competence to become more flowing and dominant. #SVNSCO

000

Well played, Robbie Ure. Come a long way since I saw you bouncing around the fringes of the Rangers first team at six months old #SVNSCO

The sunny weather and the Rosebery colours, live from a compact, far-from-full foreign stadium; this feels like a weird companion piece to June's Bolivia friendly in New Jersey. Switzerland on Tuesday can pair off with Curacao at Hampden to properly bookend Scotland's 2026 World Cup #SVNSCO

The glitchy, out-of-synch sound affecting the BBC's coverage is the perfect metaphor so far. Or maybe it's Pocognoli's baseball cap. Going too far in his efforts to not look like Steve Clarke, with the tracksuit he resembles an Asutralian Olympic breakdancer. VERY EARLY DAYS. Hit the post. #SVNSCO

Hoping Scotland play an expansive, progressive style that gets us absolutely leathered in Slovenia coz I'm just that bitter about the gobshites who only decided they liked "attractive football" when Steve Clarke got us qualifyied for the first time in 20+ years then did it more than any other boss.

Yeah maybe you're right, but I think it's more than money - with Manchester City and PSG and Newcastle it's just such flagrant sportswashing from petrostates that, to me, it really does hollow out the club and just makes them a vessel to radiate soft power. I'm an Arsenal fan so I can't deny

What's worse? That I watched Red tonight - aye, the film with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich & Helen Mirren - or that I recorded it last night (so I PLANNED to watch it), that I stopped it half-way thro to log into ITVX and watch the opening 15mins I hadn't recorded... or my snobbery?
