Messi scored 27 more goals for Argentina MNT than the number of Scotland MNT games I've attended. And I'm 18 years older than him. I feel this is more a criticism of Scotland's inability to regularly reach major finals than my inability to get off my fat arse and support my local national team.

I was also here the first time Iceland ever avoided defeat to Scotland, the first time Italy ever won in Scotland, the moment Gibraltar scored their first competitive goal; both times Wales won World Cup qualifiers in Scotland and when Belgium beat us 4-0, waited 365 days, then beat us 4-0 again.

The difference: Rangers owner was in financial trouble coz of the 2008 global crash and had made an arse of implementing a tax avoidance scheme at the club while Man City's owners have more money than anyone and made an arse of throwing it at Man City illegally. In sporting terms: both very bad.

Switzerland finally bagged, my most embarrassing omission on the MNT front. Uefa MNT No50 out of 55 and Futbology acknowledges this historic moment by awarding me a badge of the manager who won the last major finals match I attended, also at Hampden, where I also saw Sheva scoring.
