The reason I don't want a
"Christian nation" isn't because
I'm against Christianity.
It's because I've studied church history and learned about the horrors caused by the church pursuing political dominion.
Separation of church and state doesn't just help protect religious freedom, it helps keep Christianity Christian rather than becoming indistinguishable from the empire.

On the historical front, it's an interesting piece of commentary on samurai cronyism in the Tokugawa bakufu and stifling social structures, including aspects of the Edo era's patriarchal structures and marriages as a political act. The samurai class's arrogance is a key feature of all this.
