But what I consoled my brother with was this: both he and Dolly lived long, full lives, and gave us all so much. At the end of the day, that’s the most any of us can hope for. Lives well lived, with so much to remember them by.

Watching 'The Great ADHD Myth' so I can judge it for myself. Not even halfway through, and I feel like I'm going insane, there's so much shoddy work One child does not a study make So many statements which boggle the mind Almost no counterarguments, and the lightest ones get an immediate 'but'

It is wrong and immoral to hold beings of self awareness captive if they have committed no crimes.

Two types of people will see this. The first type is the emotionally shallow person who just sees Al and that's it for them. Everyone else will think about the emotions it created for a self-aware being they personally don't know and understand that cetacean captivity is wrong. I love it for this!

I have to say, it's making me feel a little insane hearing commentators say Ed Miliband shouldn't be chancellor because of his "ideological zeal" for Net Zero, in a week where temperatures are so extreme that my kids are being sent home early every day and it's regularly 30 degrees inside my house

This is exactly it. The work is the point.
When I assign analysis, I am not trying to extract a polished product; I am trying to put the student’s mind through resistance in order to make it stronger. Offloading the struggle to a chatbot does not “free students up for higher-order work.” It deprives them of building the strength to do any substantial cognitive work at all.

At this point I've dropped all other apps to focus only on MaruMori for now. If anyone reading this is interested in learning Japanese, I warn you'll probably want "premium" after the two week trial but I'm currently wishing I had just started with this app and recommend it.

I have asked 'draw a Giraffe wearing a Sombrero'

A creature with a thick long neck that is the same size as its body and little legs, wearing a Sombrero has been drawn. The Giraffe has a big smile on its face

This is why I get mad when people say it's easy and imply that people who don't pass N1 after a few years aren't good enough. As Dr. Robertson says, the JLPT isn't the only measure of Japanese ability. Speaking, reading, and writing fluency are different from test taking ability.

This is really dumb. 1. Thinking getting N1 in 1-2 years is an "incredibly attainable" goal is dumb, because it's actually impossible for the vast majority of people. 2. Belittling people who learn a certain way is dumb because everyone's different. We can't all get fluent from Anki and grit.

Slow progress in learning Japanese. But I have just a little bit more to go in Marumori before I finish the N5 content. Finding most of it is sticking, and with every lesson, I'm now getting further and further than I did in my first attempt at learning.

MaruMori shared their stance on AI! "MaruMori uses no generative AI, nor do we wish to associate ourselves with AI. All content is written and checked by humans, a mix of natives and advanced non-native speakers. Our artwork is also made by a very talented illustrator who is part of our team!"

When you look between the lines he's being very sneaky with his wording. They've already got rid of 'contract' linguists, but their 'emoloyees' (probably managers) are apparently safe. The whole thing is super ick.

Just finished the Cognitive Load Theory book from @teacherhead.bsky.social's In Action series Really glad I found this in my ITT year. I've had training on CLT, and this has helped to expand on it, deepen my understanding, and given me ideas that I can hopfully act on in the classroom soon
