Revealed!! I’m so excited to reveal my first collab with @arrowvideo.bsky.social & couldn’t be happier for it to be for a horror by one of my absolute favorite directors: @thehorrormaster.bsky.social IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS. Huge thanks to @neilsnowdon.bsky.social for inviting me to illustrate this!

There's a direct line from "no kink at Pride" and "no sex in movies and books unless it Serves The Plot" to payment processors feeling completely empowered to censor art globally

Rewatching Ti West and Mia Goth's X as aim to cover it on the pod soon and this line will always jump out for me: "Letting outdated traditions control you will get you nowhere in life"

Listening to the latest Raleigh Ritchie album, two things: 1) Jacob Anderson is ridiculously talented 2) I know it was Lestat that had a music career but now I'm imagining Louis releasing moody slow jams and it works

This week, I’m hosting The Daily Show Tuesday through Thursday. It’s my first time hosting anything on TV. Ever. I’ve spent years writing behind the scenes, learning from truly great and talented people. Now, for three nights, I get to sit at the desk and do it myself.

I had all my past released episodes and unreleased episodes stored on my external hard drive. Unfortunately that drive was accidentally put into an industrial bin in Canada and is not retrievable. I might call my current season short, as rerecording would be too much hassle

a pale femme figure with long dark hair stands wearing a dirty pale dress and a dark corset as they hold out their bloody hand towards a werewolf creature crouching on the ground (they also have blood on their mouth, throat and chest). the werewolf has a bloody face and bloody paws, they’re crouching next to gravestones that have a little blood on the very top of them. the setting is a swampy misty grave yard with a dark overhanging canopy, the moonlight and stars hang in the thick green canopy.

The benefit of being on a holiday in Toronto is that I got to see Bring Her Back in the cinema, as not released yet in Ireland. Such a bleak and sad film.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

A reminder that this is YOUR social media experience. You don't owe anyone shit. Not your attention, your ideas, your debate, your brainspace. You can curate your Bluesky experience however you want and there is no intellectual inferiority to do so. This is not a public square; its a fucking app.

This sounds like a bit but I’m being serious: kids using chat gpt for their homework are denying themselves the invaluable experience of learning how to bullshit their way through a problem. You drink some caffeine the night before and figure it the fuck out. That’s a skill. You need it in life.

In other words, studios are feeding these unproduced screenplays into their AI slop machines. Cool. I know writers who won’t even pitch movies to producers if they see the producer using AI note-taking tools.

There are so many things I see in this big beautiful world right now that seem... Broken. Unfair. Cruel. As an individual it seems impossible to know what to do about it. I think that's been a defining feeling of the 21st century. Enormous access to information yet almost complete impotence.

The reason generative AI is so popular with wannabe creatives is best illustrated by something every pro writer has encountered: getting pitched an idea by someone saying "You write it and we'll split the profits!" because they think the idea is what has value, not the writing. The opposite is true.

Days like today can make it hard to write. I find that when the world wants me to curl into a ball and doomscroll, pouring that sadness, that rage, that raw contempt, onto the page itself not only helps, but sharpens my words and sometimes even makes them better. Don’t be afraid to write angry.
