I'm enjoying learning about herd and farm animals in my Vet class way more than domestic animals. I think it's just because I knew a lot less about them to start with, so there's more new stuff to discover. I was doing some reading at my mom's house earlier and I kept quoting her interesting herd

Exactly!! It wasn't bad, though. It was pretty good! Solidly upper middle tier. It's just that that wasn't, like, the point. The point was to be really fun to watch. I think that is important sometimes

Do any of you autistic nerds have experience with fidget toys? When I'm sitting in class, I pick my fingernails until they bleed because the vyvanse fills me with nervous energy. I need an alternative, preferably something fairly discreet. Not looking like a baby toy is a bonus but not a requirement

Adventures in emailing my professors: "Hi Ms. Smith, I'm in your FYE class, and I'm not sure if I'm doing the High5 strength report right. Is there supposed to be more information than this? I'm not really sure what it means that I'm a "time keeper" or a "catalyst." Thank you!"
A screenshot of the results of an online quiz in the form of a list of strengths. The strengths are philomath, thinker, empathizer, time keeper, and catalyst. There is no further description of what these terms mean.

Fierce Pigeon Interview

I caught up with the pigeon who's taking Spunkton by storm for being "fierce" (stylish and confident).

What does a typical day look like for you?
oooo

Is there anything you're really interested in lately?

When my former neighbor was moving, he asked to swap numbers. He has a wife and two kids; I thought he was speaking for the family, like hey, let's keep in touch so we can invite each other to cookouts and stuff. Immediately started texting me inappropriately before they were out of the driveway.

I didn't go to see a video game film adaptation to experience art. I went to laugh and cheer and scream and almost throw my popcorn on the person in the seat behind me. That was delivered in spades. On that front, 5 out of 5 stars, zero notes.

Went to see Resident Evil with a buddy and had a blast. Recent trends have left a gap in one of the most important horror niches: slimy, quippy action horror that focuses more on being a rollicking good time than it does on being high cinema. Like, is it a great movie? No! And thank god!

I have seen one non-domestic rat in my life. Taking a night walk in Columbus, Ohio, one slipped out of a sewer drain, trundled across the sidewalk, and disappeared into the grass. I was so surprised I just stood there in silence. It somehow never occurred to me that they really did live down there.

Yeah, that stuck out to me too. They definitely still drill kids on multiplication tables; they still teach square roots. Granted, I'm in college and not a child, but I did long division yesterday. Maybe HIS kids didn't learn that stuff, but that's because he paid a "tutor" to do it all for them.

This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects. Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it. apnews.com/article/open...

Miss Piggy is a she because we, the human race, have agreed to treat her as a person, thus imbuing her with personhood. We have decided to do this because The Jim Henson Company earned that right by working hard, innovating, and in so doing, bringing joy and laughter to millions of people.

Thank you to everyone who responded! Also, I feel I should clarify that I didn't *write* the survey, I was instructed to copy it verbatim into Microsoft Forms so we can learn about surveys generally. I feel like question six is really dumb and I don't want y'all to think I came up with it.

Also, based on the grammar mistakes I witnessed from my reviewer and the person I reviewed, a lot of stuff apparently didn't sink in the first time around, so how about we take advantage of this rare opportunity to brush up on how possessive apostrophes work in a non-judgmental environment, huh?

This is a required core gen ed that covers stuff I'm pretty sure I learned sophomore year of high school. Frankly, I don't know why any of us are being made to take this class. I do understand why the level of classroom engagement is in the negatives. But like, still. We are paying to be here, guys.

I'm twice these kids' age and I've been writing for a long time, so I don't feel that I need a lot of help, and I wrote a pretty clean first draft that didn't leave a lot of room for suggestions. It's just that we had an hour and I stopped hearing pencil sounds after like, the five minute mark.

After class, the girl whose paper I got came up and thanked me enthusiastically for all my feedback. Meanwhile, this is what I got. My four-page essay had not a single mark on it, so the handout contains the totality of feedback from my peer reviewer.
1. Could you visualize the ad without seeing it based on this description? Are there any details you feel should be included or elaborated on?

I could visualize the ad. I think this is very good

2. Is the purpose of the ad clearly stated? Is this a good "nutshell" of what the ad is intended to accomplish? Do you have suggestions for altering this purpose statement?

yes, go more into detail about the purpose.

3. Is the target audience clearly of the ad specified? What else might she need to know about where the ad was found or who it is directed towards?

It is clearly specified, but maybe could add a little more detail

4. Are the strategies used by the ad designer described so Jenny Bell can see their connection to the audience? Is it clear how these strategies are used to achieve the ad's purpose? Are there other strategies the author could discuss or include in more detail?

They are described but maybe go into more detail about different culture [sic] food.

5. Is the report well organized? Is the information grouped in memo format to make it easier for a boss to find specific information? Is it clear who the memo is addressed to? Have all unnecessary or repetitive details and phrases been edited out to make the report concise and sharply focused?

yes, it is well organized, yes it is grouped good.

6. Has the author given a recommendation for the ad company's new campaign that shows they understand the competitor's ad (the
one being analyzed) and have interpreted what this means for the company in order to give a clear suggestion as to how they should
proceed? Do you have other ideas the author could include in their suggestion, or mark areas where the author could make cuts or changes?

yes and I think it was a good recommendation.

8. Is the language non-sexist/unbiased? Have all words been spelled correctly and all details reviewed carefully? Mark on the draft any areas you see where the grammar or structure need more attention or more general details ar…

We did a peer review of an essay we wrote in my English class. The one I got, I wrote all over - spelling and grammar corrections, questions, suggestions for rephrasing and edits for clarity. There was an additional handout for extra notes and I wrote a few paragraphs on that too.

I don't know why I'm saying this here. I just don't know where else to say it. It was like finding out your loved one believes they're possessed by demons. How am I supposed to help him? He has no support system and he won't move to be near his friends. I just feel lost.

Today's walk is brought to you by me briefly panicking because I thought someone left their tuxedo cat outside and it expired from the heat. It's a track suit jacket. Ah no, es un elote...
A photo of a grassy lawn alongside a commercial building. There is a stone dining table surrounded by stone benches to make a small outdoor eating area. On the ground beside the benches is a black and white shape that looks for all the world like a cat or small dog lying motionless in the grass. Upon closer inspection, the shape is actually a discarded jacket knotted up into a deceptively animal-like shape.
