if there is one concrete thing i would like americans and westerners to understand is that crazy rich asians is a story written for americans and westerners and no sensible person should look at breathless analyses from these outlets as honest reflections of singaporean culture

thinking fondly of the time i was asked to review CRA (the movie) for vice as a singaporean, got handed off to an asian-american editor (and vocal labor rights advocate) who decided after i filed my draft that my perspective wasn’t quite what they had in mind, and ghosted me on the kill fee lol

I know right? It's like, god damn, I *wish* that time went into something cause then I could say I happily "wasted" it, but no!

Every god damn day. It kind of feels like I have to park every errand as being the only thing I really get to accomplish for a single day (outside of mundane chores like cooking, cleaning, etc.) But then again, I hear that's just common for ADHD folks.

yeah but the way out includes taking accountability for committing almost a century of systematic theft, ethnosupremacism, apartheid, illegal occupation, torture, rape, military brainwashing & genocide and given that this fascist faux-mocracy has only existed as such, that would be remarkable

A Venn diagram of a very specific category of losers: pricks who think that the end goal of games is an infinite supply of user specific experiences designed only to massage their fantasies and lick the balls of their brain. They have no interest in engaging with meaning created by another person.

It's actually always losers who think art and entertainment should be empowered by technology to design itself around your preferences. Just as they love having their ass licked by a sycophant speech bot, they want a bespoke fantasy designed to satisfy desires rather than challenge them.

Found in my screenshots folder.
A visual excerpt of "Pyramid of Capitalist System" a 1911 American cartoon caricature attributed to "Nedeljkovich, Brashich, & Kuharich."

It depicts a social order in which workers serve as the foundation, their struggles supporting privileged people enjoying the spoils of luxury, above them soldiers who uphold and protect the nation's order. Unseen from the excerpt are the political, military and mercantile elite who all support a bag of money, which ultimately rules capitalism.

Text has been added to remix the image. It reads, "In the beginning, there was nothing of value. And so, in the 1600s to 1800s, capitalism was invented to assign value to all things." Taken from Ladykiller in a Bind! by Christine Love.

I'm old enough to see VR get signal boosted in the 90s and the 2010s and IMHO it was always being promoted by out of touch dumb asses who are unserious on making people want things. They refused to make VR desirably priced because they stupidly believed consumers would meet them at their bullshit.

Have literally never heard of any gaming accessory / device that started out as an expensive niche product gradually achieving mainstream adoption. Even at their most expensive, antecedent products tried to offer the most reasonable price they could, have wide use cases.

As a very score enjoyer I absolutely detest most MCU music, just annoying that we went from peak shit with Elfman, Beltrami, Kamen and even Ottoman in comic book movies to the most turgid audioslop. Alan Silvestri just phoning it in like some substitute John Williams if John Williams was bad.

I get that The Game Awards is the most visible prism by which a GOTY is perceived but if people want to write about it then they should just be up front when writing about The Game Awards. Talking about GOTYs like they're just a TGA category is irresponsible at best, dishonest clickbait at worst.
031
Matthew Arcilla, editorial mercenary @experimentego.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
So we're just using the word GOTY to be interchangeable with The Game Awards huh? Must be fucking great to let Geoff Keighley corner the market on how we talk about GOTYs

I'm sure many are going to come in here to explain the relevance of phoenices to the HP milieu but honestly my first thought was that it's an antitheft measure, so people don't think about fencing that shit online. Anyway HP sucks, never read past the first 100 pages coz I was already an adult.

Sometimes Mass Effect fans engage in seemingly benign genuine conversations about the moral dilemmas that the games present to you, and then other times they're like "maybe the Dalatrass was correct that the Krogan don't have the right to breed"

"It's shitty that we have an industry benefiting from people’s experiences while making those experiences harder to have. The time for becoming interested in something unfamiliar looks expendable to these people, because it's new or different and they aren't able to prove that it can make money."

It's actively insanity inducing to be a survivor and a feminist right now because in the face of the sheer ubiquity of sexual assault and the lack of consequences for it, we're all being besieged by demands that we think of the rapist men, forgive the rapist men, cleanse the souls of the rapist men

If people really want to consider and weigh Geller's potential "redemption" (blech) and the criterion by which he may be permitted a return, then fucking fine whatever, but I'd really like that to not be the conversation on week one. Have the decency to stow that till 2027.

Our next look into Issue One is a piece by Luka Brave ( @psychhound.bsky.social ) He writes about Apocalypse Keys' monstrous PCs, disability, and dignity. Apocalypse Keys is written by Rae Nedjadi and published by Evil Hat ( @evilhat.bsky.social ).

Disablity, Dignity and Hope in Apocalypse Keys
Luka Brave writes about Apocalypse Keys' monstrous PCs as a metaphor for the disability community, and hones in on Robert Perske's concept of "dignity of risk," which states that vulnerable groups, should be allowed the freedom to weigh the potential risks of a choice for themselves.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

it frankly doesn't matter if "certain things" about a rape allegation don't make sense to you. it's not your job to tell a survivor how they should act in the present or whether they should have done something in the past, at the time, a certain "ideal" way for you to find it easier to accept now.

the OSR and PbtA scenes have some real common ground and i'm glad that some of the petty tribalism around both has died out. we get better games when folks take from multiple movements for their designs, imo!
