I don’t care how fast your car goes, how you did at the range, how much money you made last year, how many fights you’ve been in, touchdowns you made, home runs you pitched, or women you slept with. My kids like me and I saved 38 kittens. Step to me you better come heavy and pack a lunch.

So, looks like NaNoWriMo is now defunct. For anyone who was on the inside of the goings on this is not surprising. I didn’t use it at all last year because of their awful response to community concerns and I’m proud of my choice. I will continue to do my own thing and look for community elsewhere.

Wasn't Inkitt the sketchy one Nanowrimo had as a sponsor?

Nothing unfortunate about that. #NaNoWriMo should have closed down when the child-grooming and child-abuse scandals came to light in 2023. Instead, they milked donations for another year and a half.

Inkitt have always shady. There were huge issues with their sponsorship for NaNoWriMo in 2022. It doesn't surprise me that they're on the AI honey wagon and looking to flood the market with AI slop! wrrrdnrrrdgrrrl.com/2022/11/30/o...

Before #NaNoWriMo, I couldn't imagine an organization that made the absolute wrong move every single time. Except this time. Shutting down, finally, has been the only good thing they've done in a couple of years.

If you used the #NaNoWriMo forums, you can download your data (posts, messages, etc) by logging in, going to your profile, going to Preferences, and scrolling to the bottom. Click Request Archive under Export Your Data. Shortly, a .zip file will show up in your PMs.

What was the purpose of NaNoWriMo as a non-profit again? To sell writer's retreats?

So if you need the context, and as many other #Authors have said, the #NaNoWriMo org not only shot themself in the foot, but then gunned down every other part of the org, before finally decapitating themselves. The #WritingCommunity is not at fault. See the vid.

I've been on them for a year and a half to formally abandon their trademarks so that anyone can use them to describe their own challenges and communities. I hope they do, but it's more likely that they'll sell the IP in liquidation. Not that anybody wants a mark tainted with the tears of children.

I just saw that they’re shutting down NaNoWriMo. 😭 I had a sense the new crew who took over last year were struggling. But it’s incredibly sad to have it end like this. Ugh. So many feelings.

I think what's disappointing about the Nanowrimo shit is that everyone focues on the AI sponsor and not the fact that they ONLY REASON they had to resort to that was the grooming allegations in the website's youth forum

... I'm extremely pissed at that article. NaNoWriMo got what it fucking deserved for the AI shit, but the allegations of predatory behaviour by a kids forum moderator were not just random baseless attacks from the fucking fascists, and their response was neither timely nor thorough.
