Actually, I’d amend this quotation a bit. Because yes, complementarians (those who believe women aren’t suited for leadership but are suited for certain “complementary” roles) and MAGAts contribute a lot to the problem. But sexism isn’t limited to religious or political conservatives.

Around 2010 or so I introduced a topic at a church board meeting with that phrase (intentionally) and got to see who amongst us understood.

Another: “We have allowed men to define respecting women almost entirely by what we personally do not do. ‘I would never rape a woman.’ Good. That is an extraordinarily low bar… The harder question is what you do when another man disrespects a woman in your presence.” baptistnews.com/article/as-y...

From the same article: “If you want to protect women from assault, you don’t need to worry about transgender folks. You need to worry about frat boys and the families and politicians who have trained them up…”

“…underneath it all lies a culture in which men do not take seriously the humanity of women… That blame lies squarely at the feet of the complementarians in the evangelical church & the MAGA adherents who have pledged their undying devotion to an unrepentant rapist.” baptistnews.com/article/dear...

Dear men, it is time to wake the hell up
All this is horrible, but there’s one fact about this case that ought to keep you awake at night worried about the future of the world:

As a Unitarian Universalist humanist, I’ve got a lot of theological differences with Baptists of any stripe. But the liberal Baptists at Baptist News Global are speaking a language that I understand.

On the other hand, solely and entirely because of MST3K, the phrase “think about it, won’t you?” lives in my head. Even though the “won’t you” seems not to be in the original. www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8vZ...

We watched the ST:TOS episode “What Are Little Girls Made Of” last night, and it’s like all these AI companies are filled with people who saw that as kids and decided that was their life’s goal, without seeing the fascism and eugenics.

We come from different faith traditions, and there are some things we disagree about, but we can all come together to proclaim the inherent worthiness and dignity of all people, and to decry the immorality of the administration’s actions against immigrants.

Glad to be able to participate in a multi-faith protest and march this afternoon in support of immigrants. Among the leaders who spoke were a Catholic priest, a Unitarian Universalist minister, a reconstructionist rabbi, an imam, a reform rabbi, an Episcopalian minister, and a Catholic bishop.
Selfie of an older white man with glasses and a gray mustache in a crowded protest. He is wearing a black shirt with a minister’s tab collar, a yellow stole with a heart symbol, and a small heart-shaped trans liberation pin. Prominent in the crowd behind him are two Franciscan monks in brown robes. People in the crowd are holding up signs; most can’t be read, but one says “stop ICE violence now.”

When I first saw this comment this morning, it looked like this, and (beyond my control) my immediate thought was “I would call that teal, but maybe she means the landscape?”…
The usual Dr-Manhattan-sitting-in-a-purple-and-pink-lunar-landscape meme, followed by a “view full thread” button, followed by a post saying “You look so pretty in that color of purple!”

Thanks! I was taking a walk with a friend a few weeks ago and we ducked into an antique mall to get out of the heat, and there it was! I had just gotten rid of my extensive collection of espresso mugs, but this looked like too pretty a demitasse to pass up.

Since we are speaking of the past, here is a photo from 13 years ago plus one day that my phone decided to show me. Or is this the future? The second photo is from the following month.
A demitasse, with a visible residue of espresso, resting on a saucer on a placemat on a wooden table. There is a sugar cube on the saucer, in a red wrapper that says “HENRI BLANC — Le café du café,” and there is a small spoon resting bowl-down on the rim of the saucer as well.A photo of a middle-aged man with short dark brown hair and a dark brown beard and mustache, with touches of gray showing. He is wearing glasses with rectangular wire frames, and a collared shirty with a teal plaid pattern. Behind hims there is some greenery and a but of wooden fencing.

Sometimes there’s a song that used to be on the radio when you were young, that you could never quite catch all the lyrics to, but that had a catchy beat or rhythm or hook or something… and 40 years later, when you hear it again and catch all the lyrics, you think, my god, is *that* what it’s about?
