It was low on the horizon (the sun that set was not round) and there have been a lot of wildfires in Spain lately.

Guadalajara, Spain, at totality. People cheered and clapped when the sun vanished, and again when it reappeared. It set before the moon’s shadow was off of it. ¡Te veré mañana! called one man: I’ll see you tomorrow. Verdad.
A total eclipse of the sun, in dark skies above dark trees.

The Pylon People – AKA the Children of The Hum – were labelled as everything from 'a very English apocalypse cult' to 'filthy hippies unable to keep still'. Few understood their continuous pilgrimage, their strange navigations directed by the humming lines above. – Dr. M. Benn

Happenstance. But do watch the skies. The re-emergence is like vegetable love (vaster than empires and more slow), but progressing.

This right here is the Protestant/Catholic divide. Or the presbyterian/episcopal one (note lowercase). Schism 2026 was all passive-aggressive letters leading to a long ceremony where only people in the know could distinguish the spicy bit. Meanwhile, the Presbyterians just…say it? Coool.

I’m not sure I agree with that last statement, as someone who has had the occasional hobby of going to Masses in languages I don’t speak. One knows what they’re saying when. One responds in another language, perhaps. But there is community and wishing of peace and the miracle. It’s multifaceted.

The election of Francis is often credited to the Birb. It was kind of out of left field.

I think that Benedict was the turning point. He didn’t do the consolidation work for JP2’s legacy that Leo is doing for Francis’, and he didn’t manage his own succession.

The Vatican has spent decades finessing to bring as many people into the fold as possible, to shrink the departing group as much as they can. Was this to keep people out of a repressive cult or to prevent the schism from threatening the institution? Tomayto tomahto, I think.

Well, I watched the consecration-shaped event while avoiding thinking about my upcoming travel (I get anxious). Both SSPX and the Pope have been explicit that Vatican 2 is the hard breakpoint. I don’t see how schism can be avoided.

The bit about how the people of a nation share a language and a culture was also pretty nationalist-coded. And weird in front of the superior of Benelux, which includes the famously monolingual Belgium.

Cooling is complicated, because heating is via radiators. If you just run cold water through the same pipes you get condensation problems. And ripping out the entire water-based heating system to move to air is…a lot.

It’s possible that the priorities were driven not only by climate goals, but also by the desire for Europe to be less dependent on Russian gas ASAP.

In the UK heat pumps are typically used to replace gas boilers, a like for like replacement. This means they hook up to the existing hot water & wet heating system - water filled radiators. Running cold water through those causes condensation and damp, so that feature isn't included on those models

Because it’s driven by de-gasification efforts, and aims to replace/supplant the boiler in an environment where a lot of gas usage is for radiators.
