The last public execution in the United States was that of Roscoe Jackson in 1937. The US, along with most other countries abolished the practice as cruel, barbaric, and harmful to the public witness. Because this is a form of terrorism.

There's a market in research and high-end computing. Always has been. But that shit doesn't drive billion dollar IPOs. And nobody in startups or venture capital wants a successful £20m niche company. they want to be a Unicorn. So the delusion of AI as a consumer product gets shoved in the deck.

This is what happens to any performance of legal accountability for the rich once they know you're no longer looking The search warrants were for the house of a member of the British royal family, who was stripped of his titles only under protest. Of course they weren't unlawful. That's absurd

Unlike cheap internet access or 3G phones (the true drivers of the 90s/2000s explosion) consumer AI is a means with no end. You can't sell that to consumers. Only to businesses that misunderstand the relationship between technology and profits/cost-savings. Because to them, it's magic beans.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

And on the belief that good writing stems from good ideas:
The more I think about the word “idea,” the less idea I have what it means. … I think this is a kind of shorthand use of “idea” to stand for the complicated, obscure, un-understood process of the conception and formation of what is going to be a story when it gets written down. The process may not involve ideas in the sense of intelligible thoughts; it may well not even involve words. It may be a matter of mood, resonances, mental glimpses, voices, emotions, visions, dreams, anything. It is different in every writer, and in many of us it is different every time. It is extremely difficult to talk about, because we have very little terminology for such processes.
