Btw, I remember there being some anxieties around folks expressing their opinions during primaries. Besides being nowhere near a presidential primary at the moment, now is in fact the time for people to express certain lines they expect candidates not to cross. Protect trans folks.

I think it’s fine to bully people for reading Harry Potter in 2025 actually If you want to read your old Harry Potter books, you should do it in secret and shamefully - you know, in the way that J.K. Rowling wants to force trans people to live.

🚨NEW: Major development. German newspaper Der Spiegel has found phone numbers and passwords for Hegseth, Waltz & Gabbard in stolen data freely published on the internet. ‼️It includes details of Signal accounts. “It is conceivable that foreign agents were privy to the Signal chat group.”
Hegseth, Waltz, Gabbard
Private Data and Passwords of Senior U.S. Security Officials Found Online
Donald Trump's most important security advisers used Signal to discuss an imminent military strike. Now, reporting by DER SPIEGEL has found that the contact data of some of those officials, including mobile phone numbers, is freely accessible on the internet.

So. I think it's important to share news about what's happening. But I'm trying to square that with the other reality that it contributes to doomscrolling. I think we need to start putting these things into context and talking about what we are learning or what we should take away from it.

I live in Michigan. Elon Musk did this for PR and nothing more. He did nothing to help Flint. He was already rotted out.

Trump issued an executive order invoking a wartime law the Alien Enemies Act of 1798—a little-known law—would allow the government to deport without due process.

To be clear, the upshot of this decision is that an awful 5th Circuit decision saying it’s illegal for states to count late-arriving mail ballots will stand. It nullifies two such laws, in Texas and Mississippi, though it doesn’t apply in the rest of the country. It’s SCOTUS-bound for sure.

Hearing all these democrats suggesting that trans people aren't worthy of rights, sure screams progressive principles. It's not like there are any historical precedents for what happens when centrists cave to fascist calls to dehumanize groups of marginalized people. No, no, none at all.

Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.

With alt-text. The Parable of the Talents is a novel by Octavia Butler. It was published in 1998, a sequel to The Parable of the Sower (1993.) Both were award winning books.

Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

A CEO of a public company making positive public statements about Trump and congratulating him on the election makes a ton of sense to me. Same from a mid-sized, private company hits different.
