They apparently realized this was a problem, so they added a feature (a Blue notification bar above the editor asking if you'd like to Restore Edits). Except that the notification appears outside of the viewport, and if you click around or make other edits without seeing it, it goes away.

There's a certain irony in the fact that if you click on a link in Preview of a doc you're editing on GitHub, it navigates the editor tab to the new page and **loses your edits**.

It's 2026 and no matter whether I start VS2026 DPI Unaware and/or turn off the "Optimize for pixel densities" option, opening my project on a 125% DPI screen **still** corrupts all of the size values in the designer.cs file. :(

It's 2026 and the default label control in Windows (e.g. what you get if you put a WinForms Label control on your form) still copies its content to the clipboard if you double-click on it. A random dev checked this into Vista with no spec and he was gone for a long time before anyone (me) noticed.

There are two problems here, one eternal and one novel. The eternal problem is humanity’s preference for self-validation. Left to our own devices we seek out ideas that flatter our biases and resentments, reinforce our own notions of how the world works. Crowds develop manias, they hallucinate.
