The Metro Chamber is targeting me because my office has successfully defended their attacks related to Preschool for All, Portland Street Response, Moda, Zenith, Harborton, Clean and Safe, and more. They’re scared, I’m not, and the people are onto them. Their dirty tricks won’t work anymore.

Not doing just a bit here: my office will be moving forward with some oversight on this. Here’s why: fundamentally, we changed our form of government to move away from backroom dealing on matters of public interest. Using code names for recurring meetings like this runs counter to transparency.

when we go to 2-k in multnomah, we're doing it by first raising the wages. just like we did with preschool. no program should be built by exploiting the workforce, ever, and voters agree with this!

Did anyone else get a truly ridiculous push-poll testing anti-Preschool For All messaging? 🎩💰 Let's take a look at what our opposition is cooking! 👀 First up: means-testing. A classic method to minimize public support for programs to then under-fund them more easily!
"Now, here are some proposals that have been made regarding the Preschool for All program. For each one, please indicate if you find each one acceptable or unacceptable to you.

Implementing an income cap so the Preschool for All funds go only to lower income and working-class families who need the most financial help and support.

Acceptable

Unacceptable

And, would you say it is DEFINITELY UNACCEPTABLE or just PROBABLY UNACCEPTABLE?

Definitely unacceptable

Probably unacceptable

Great reporting and a good opportunity to reup for the public that my office has produced a series of reports, documents and letters that makes the economic case for why it's such a crucial program, while debunking claims or intimations that the tax was driving people out of the county.

✨Story Time!✨ Families are already moving to Multnomah County because of Preschool For All. They see how the program which is helping them set down roots now, will also help put them in a position to pay into it to help future families, creating a virtuous cycle and a healthy, thriving community.💛
On a playful yellow background in black text: "“When my family moved from Bend to the Portland area in 2021, we had a choice of counties. We chose Multnomah—because of Preschool for All. My youngest was one month old, my oldest was three, and we were deep in the trenches of childcare struggles. We were planning our future, and Preschool for All was part of that vision."- Laura C, Portland parent

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

I oppose the resumption of sweeps beginning tomorrow. They are costly, ineffective and cruel. At a time when our Federal government is literally starving our most vulnerable neighbors, we add to that by violently taking from them what little they have? My statement attached.
Councilor Mitch Green
Portland City Council, District 4
1221 SW 4th Ave. # 240, Portland, OR, 97204

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Councilor Mitch Green’s Statement on November 1st Camping Ban Enforcement
Policy
October 30, 2025
“We have seen ICE and the National Guard perform homeless sweeps in other cities where
they've been deployed, and we’ve heard Trump calling for increased sweeps and even
disappearance of unhoused people.
It is a bad, cruel, and failed policy when the Trump administration does it, and it is a bad,
cruel, and failed policy when the city of Portland does it.
As we face the very real possibility of federal troops being deployed to our streets to target
one group of vulnerable people, we absolutely cannot start using our own police to do their
work for them by targeting another.
Some will argue that sweeps are about safety and compassion, but the evidence is clear
and overwhelming. Sweeps kill people.
For far too long, Portland has pursued a failed policy of criminalizing poverty. As a result,
we’ve spent hundreds of millions of dollars only to see the problem grow, and deaths among
our homeless neighbors quadruple between 2019 and 2023.
It’s time to change direction. We need to protect ALL Portlanders. We need to focus on programs that move people closer to housing and stability, not policies
that punish and further destabilize. Programs like low-barrier jobs programs, direct rental
assistance, food aid, and day shelters that provide hygiene, clothing, and case management.
Programs like these are humane, cost-effective, and they work. They address the issue of
visible poverty that neighbors and businesses are concerned about, but they do so by
offering dignity, not displacement. They break the cycle of disappointment and
depression—where people spend all day waiting in lines, worrying about their belongings,
with no meaningful work. They are a hand up, not a sweep away.
But at the end of the day, the only real, lasting solution to homelessness is to provide deeply
affordable housing for all. Unless we stop the flow of folks onto the streets, we’re never
going to make real progress. That is why we need to move aggressively towards a Social
Housing model— high quality, permanently affordable housing that will serve the vast
majority of Portlanders, from the unhoused to the middle class.
The choice before us is clear. We can either align ourselves with the politics of division, of
sweeps, of cages, and of death, or we can choose the politics of solidarity, of housing, of
healthcare, and of life.”
