The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.

I do wonder sometimes if certain people in Labour have ever met the modern working class. I know in reality they have, but it never feels like it. Working people are overwhelmingly literate now! Most know people of other races! Many have gay friends or family! Some worry about climate change!

People wondering why 15% of bi men are unwilling to date other bi men seem to not have stumbled on the discourse where some bi men say they are only sexually but not romantically attracted to men. I wonder how much that accounts for some of the difference here between bi men & women.

Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He’s now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.

His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They don’t have disabled separate toilets.

In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.

He’s been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.

I do not know how to support him and as he’s not in a union there is no one to turn too right now.

Higher education regulator apologises for imposing £585,000 fine on university
Office for Students made decision to punish University of Sussex with fine last year after claiming it breached free speech regulations England’s higher education regulator has apologised for a string of mistakes in its decision to punish the University of Sussex with a record fine that was later overturned by the high court. The Office for Students (OfS) tried to impose a £585,000 fine against Sussex last year after claiming the university breached free speech regulations involving its former professor Kathleen Stock. It was forced to back down in April after a judicial review initiated by Sussex found the OfS “had closed its mind” and acted with bias. Continue reading...

The feminist movement that Steinem did much to mainstream and expand is in retreat, with women’s rights and status eroding conspicuously, and I’d like the usual suspects to consider this before they go on their ahistorical little rants about how she was a CIA stooge or whatever.

I want to elaborate on this - there's a lot of bloat in Amnesty's "Gender Critical" list. They're not wrong about the character of these groups, but it kind of cheapens it to have "organisations" that are functionally just an X account alongside actually substantive ones.

It’s important to understand that “consulted” in Home Office speak means “told people what we were going to do”, so I wouldn’t *necessarily* read this as having got Burnham’s approval for these grim proposals on repaying asylum support. But if he doesn’t act swiftly we can all draw our conclusions.

A lot of GC mental gymnastics is grounded in a refusal to understand that sex is gendered. Sexed bodies are not encountered neutrally but interpreted through gendered social meanings so saying “it’s not about masculinity/femininity, it’s about sex”, is wrong cause the world doesn’t work that way.
