This is a helpful write-up. It’s laid out very clearly. It’s been hard to find specific information.

Need some good news? Washington state just passed a 9.9% tax on households earning >$1 million/year AND expanded its state EITC to 460K families! Gov. Ferguson says he’ll sign the measures into law. It's a huge step forward for one of the country’s most inequitable tax systems.

Expands Working Families Tax Credit 👍 Supports small businesses 👍 Pours into child care + schools & helps costs of household items 👍 The #MillionairesTax is a FIRST for WA. As we await for the Gov to sign the bill into law, we urge him to keep the bill’s critical wins to maximize support for WA

Your state legislators have been on the House floor since 6pm yesterday, no breaks, to pass a Millionaires Tax. They've struck down 50+ amendments, mostly intended to weaken the bill and run down the clock. #WALeg you are doing great!

🧵The #MillionairesTax vote continues in the House from last night! Big thanks to the lawmakers fighting for this bill! We've got a few reminders about the tax: 1. It would be paid by around 20,000 households, less than 1% of the wealthiest people in WA. Over 99% of Washingtonians wouldn't pay it

While the governor's support of a Millionaires Tax is an exciting move for WA's budget & tax code in the long term, we also need lawmakers to enact progressive revenue solutions now. What we DON’T need? Additional harmful cuts to the programs that help our communities thrive. Read more. #WaLeg

WA's inequitable tax code relies on those w the LEAST to pay the MOST. Meanwhile, the state faces a revenue shortfall in part b/c the ultra-wealthy don't pay their share of taxes. This session, #WaLeg must fund our communities by enacting new forms of revenue: budgetandpolicy.org/state-budget...

#WaLeg House & Senate held public hearings earlier this wk on outgoing Gov. Inslee’s proposed budget. As the budget’s developed, we're urging lawmakers to enact progressive revenue policies that support a sustainable long-term budget + reject cuts, which fail to address systemic funding issues

It’s genuinely shocking if you’re remotely familiar with the basic facts of trans care and youth medicine. It is *profoundly* difficult to access gender-affirming care as a minor and the Times has printed more than a dozen articles implying that it is too easy.

This makes more sense when consider how much Morales was targeted, both personally and politically, by some of her colleagues. During this budget cycle, 44% of her amendments were rejected. Meanwhile, the council only rejected 4% of the amendments proposed by the other 8 council members.

INBOX: Progressive Seattle City Councilmember Tammy Morales has announced her intention to step down one year into her second term, citing “the erosion of our checks and balances as a Legislative department” under the leadership of the current right-leaning majority.
Interfered with the ability of our non-partisan Council Central Staff to provide objective policy analysis
Suppressed the will of voters by offering an alternative ballot initiative that would effectively gut the Seattle social housing developer next February
Stifled first amendment rights during public comment by arresting people
Intimidated commenters by having a police presence when any controversial legislation is consideredWitnessed a significant reduction of institutional knowledge through the departure of 3 Council Central policy staff, the entire Council communications team, members of our human resources and finance team, and several legislative aides
Attempted to defund a critical program for addressing anti-displacement and supporting community economic development led by people of color
Passed 11 separate bills to increase the punitive nature of our criminal legal system without any additional meaningful accountability for our police department
And passed a budget that reduces funding for social services for our most vulnerable while dramatically increasing funding for jails, police, and sweeps
