Without a hint of irony the head of DOD simultaneously announced a new initiative centering “Christianity” and a new department for automated drone warfare. Which is thematically consistent if you’re into killing without accountability while deluding yourself that you have the moral high ground.

This perfectly fits with the negative tone of posts I’ve seen about Banksy art on instagram. I’m sure that’s totally coincidental tho and not at all the fascists with thumbs on the scales

The “jaw-dropping” El Niño currently heating up the planet has burst through the highest temperature ever recorded for the phenomenon, several months before its expected peak.
A line chart showing temperature anomalies in the Niño 3.4 region of the Pacific Ocean, compared to a 30-year rolling base period since 1982.

A gold line shows temperatures in 1997, a teal line in 2025, and a red line in 2026. The red line surpasses all others reaching 3.07ºC, and at an earlier point (September) than the previous El Niño that reached a comparable range in November 2015.

It’s infuriating because as soon as these people are out of office everyone will be writing their postmortem with a fictional I told you so at the foundation or at least recasting themselves as heroically steadfast in the face of a hostile government

UnitedHealthcare, which just posted profits of $5.5B for the 2nd quarter, takes your tax dollars under the pretense of providing coverage to Medicare patients. That’s up from $3.4B last yr bc they intentionally decreased the amount of medical care they will cover. That’s their entire business model
"The second quarter 2026 medical care ratio was 86.7% compared to 89.4% in the second quarter 2025," the company said of the ratio, which is the percentage of premium revenue that goes toward medical costs. "The year-over-year decrease was driven by benefit design and pricing discipline, member mix and medical cost management initiatives.”

Honestly the American flag as a totem in 2026 lands little different than the confederate flag at this point. The only way to reclaim a national symbol is by getting the nation to stop doing terrible terrible shit

I hate writing advice, period, so I would never suggest anyone model their process after mine. But for me, writing is like running. I often don’t know what I have in me on a given day until I gut it out for that first mile. So I generally have to just do it and then see what comes.

The current situation in Saudi Arabia is pretty dire. The Houthis successfully targeted the east-west pipeline that supplied up to 7m barrels of oil/day to avoid the strait of Hormuz. The Houthis are rapidlt advancing on the Bab Al-Mandab strait and could block shipping traffic there soon.

Aging liberals especially are doing the whole conservative shift to preserve mah comfort bs and are just calling it being pragmatic so they can resolve their cognitive dissonance. The side effect is this smug assertion that they maintain the moral high ground and the whole thing is just disgusting.

A rogue ai is not going to wipe out humanity. That’s just industry propaganda and honestly more of an accountability sink than anything. Normal ai will, however, facilitate fascism and accelerate climate collapse which will kill a lot of us.

Life in 2026 is watching secret police disappear people off the street one day, a coastline falling into the ocean the next, and wondering if each new cataclysm will be the one that causes the whole collective to turn its head and take notice and each time a little less surprised when it doesn’t.

I’d reiterate that the key incident that drove the Cancel Culture panic - a wholly elite project, imposed from the top down - was the sight of Harvey Weinstein being dragged sobbing from court to jail, unprotected by his wealth, and the internet-based movement for justice that went with it.
