Just as BMW is a massive employer of normal people, but if huge swaths of the city were Mini factory behind a fence, people would rightly object.

But offices and spaces that exclude based upon association with the uni are not inclusive. I grew up in Oxford and there are whole areas that are out of bounds to me, it's quite alienating.

Emma Lightfoot @emmalightfoot.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Yes but the point is this space will now be exclusively for University offices etc. So no more spaces like Common Ground that can be used by locals and students alike. So much of Oxford is only accessible to people who go to or work for the uni.

Emma Lightfoot @emmalightfoot.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
This Is a real shame. It means yet more of the city set aside for just the University and most inclusive spaces lost for normal people. We really need to fight to ensure that Oxford doesn't just become one huge campus with no access for locals.

All those Labour MPs so concerned with the safety of Jewish Greens. Really appreciate it, but if you were really concerned w/Jewish safety, you'd push your gov to be serious about the right wing thugs currently terrorising our streets, as we say here - jewishgreens.greenparty.org.uk/2026/09/11/j...

An unusual battery-powered tram could be considered as a fast link from Oxford to Witney, Carterton and other nearby towns. Oxfordshire councillors have been inspecting the Coventry Very Light Rail system, whose tracks are laid just 30cm into the road surface – greatly minimising construction cost.

It was a pleasure to chair and organise. So many different stories from people, some I never would have believed. It just shows that we have to support each other and refuse to give up the space and the rage required to fix our broken health system.

Graham Linehan is calling the people who murdered a trans man in cold blood, heroes.
Screenshot of an X post by Graham Linehan (@Glinner) commenting, "It looks like these two are heroes who may have saved some kids".
Linehan quotes a post by Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) that reads: "Damn. According to a witness of the shooting homicide of the trans New York Times executive in Dublin, Calif., the elderly Chinese grandparents calmly walked away after the exec was dropped to the ground".
Below the text are two police mugshot photos side by side: on the left is an elderly Asian woman with short, wavy gray hair wearing a white shirt, and on the right is an elderly Asian man with short dark hair, slight facial stubble, and a white shirt.

Of course yes it was England that delivered leave. But I hate that people living in places I have no connection with led my home into disaster. London should be a separate country to England, with Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton, Bristol, Liverpool, Norwich etc as independent city states.

Bits of England. I was living in Germany when the Brexit vote happened, and people would say to me that "your country voted leave". It got me thinking, I grew up in Oxford/shire which voted heavily Remain. Then lived in central London, remain. And finally Norwich, which also voted remain.

The last manifesto had things like protecting trans rights in it. So excuse me if I'm not too impressed by manifesto promises, that won't even be pursued until 2029 by a party that has shown repeatedly the manifesto isn't worth the paper it was written on.

It's also a way of spending all that money without the scrutiny and limits of an election period. If he blows all those dodgy donations on grandiose rallies and events then even if he is punished the damage will have been done and the benefit gained by Reform.

Lucy Powell, who has just imposed a viciously transphobic Section 28 mark 2 on schools which has resulted in a massive increase in harassment and bullying of trans kids, joins Bridget Phillipson as joint most hypocritical MP on the, already very hypocritical , Labour Party.
Ahead of her conference speech, the education secretary said she will use her new role to announce an expansion of anti-harassment work in schools, having called in her deputy leadership race for Labour to be more explicitly progressive especially calling out racism and misogyny.

Burnham’s attempt to steal the slogan “hope” from the Greens has backfired badly as he quickly moves on to “difficult decisions”… “Difficult decisions” for us, not “difficult decisions” for the super-rich obvs.
NEW: Andy Burnham will shift his messaging away from "hope" to preparing the public for
"challenging times" and "difficult decisions" with Labour officials increasingly concerned the budget will be gloomier than expected

The private rented sector is broken, and renters are being pushed to the brink. It’s time for rent controls and the council homes people so desperately need.
Green Party graphic reads "IT'S TIME TO GET RENTS UNDER CONTROL," containing a quote from Hannah Spencer, Green MP for Gorton and Denton: “The latest Office for National Statistics figures show how completely broken the private rental market is.

The fastest rent rises in the North West and North East at 5.8% mean rent rises of hundreds and hundreds of pounds. That money is transferred from families and individuals already stretched to breaking point directly to the pockets of private landlords.

The Renters’ Rights Act has not done enough for affordability. The temporary accommodation crisis we are seeing is a direct result of a private rented sector spiralling out of control.

We council homes built at scale, and rent controls now.

If Andy Burnham is serious about finally tackling the cost of living, this is where he should start.” A portrait portrait the Hannah appears on the right, and the Green Party logo and imprint below.
