the stm used my suggestion! they got inspiration from vancouver and installed an observation deck with fun facts and windows to look at the blue line extension construction. you can find it at parc de talcy on ave de la roche-yvon. #montreal #stminfo

zut!

#montreal is about to welcome its biggest sporting event since the 1976 olympics. chrono, the official public transit app of the region, can't show any of the bus detours caused by the event. @transit.app, which is built in mtl and is translink's and oc transpo's official app, shows all the detours.
a screenshot from chrono and a screenshot from transit. chrono doesn't display the detour for the 80 north, while transit shows it.

Reporters mixing CAPEX and OPEX on massive transit projects for RAGE BAIT... When will they do the same with highway projects? #altotrain #HSR Great response by ALTO on LinkedIn ⤵️
ALTO's comment under the Globe and Mail reporter's post on LinkedIn

The article conflates two different financial concepts: the cost of building the infrastructure and the expenses (largely offset by the revenues) of operating and maintaining it over several decades.

The figure consistently cited by Alto and the Government of Canada refers to the capital cost of building the infrastructure, which is standard practice for major infrastructure projects at this early stage. The figure referenced by The Globe and Mail, based on a 2023 document, is derived by combining construction costs with approximately 40 years of operating and maintenance expenses.

It is similar to calculating the cost of building or buying a house by adding 40 years of future maintenance expenses to the initial price. While those expenses must be planned for, they are generally assessed separately from construction costs and need to be considered alongside the revenues generated over the asset's life. As a result, the two figures measure different things and are not directly comparable.

Unlike highways and bridges that generate little or no direct revenue, Alto is expected to generate sufficient operating revenues to cover its operating and maintenance costs while delivering significant long-term benefits for Canada.
