For fun, I imagined what foreign policy would look like in an independent péquiste Québec and saw that Skoda shared articles about Russia and NATO by that prof "exiled" in Kazakhstan. 🫠 On the bright side, it could help us get over our air of superiority wrt Americans who voted for Trump.

I was surprised the PQ seemingly adopted elements of their platform from Hungary’s Viktor Orbán (Gaspard Skoda’s influence?) We celebrated Orbán’s defeat with an online toast across three continents. I won’t be voting for an Orbán wannabe.

FRQ knows how to get my attention for funding opportunities! From my years as director of the MA WRRC, I know exactly where this image was taken of the river that cuts through "the sleepy west of the woody east".
Connecticut River viewed from Mount Sugarloaf. Also a call for proposals on emerging contaminants.

Being part of/witness to bystander intervention has the advantage of restoring faith in humanity. Experienced this in Montreal’s metro when a woman was being stalked. The actions of two people who identified it led to many others getting involved. People interrupted their trip to keep her safe.

Et si la protection de l’eau s’invitait en campagne électorale?
Des voix s'élèvent pour réclamer plus de soutien financier de la part du gouvernement du Québec pour mieux protéger les rivières et les lacs.

Saw McNulty climb first on Pagnuelo for the second last lap, then moved to the screen at the “Marie d’arondissement d’Outremont” to watch the finish line. Fun day. Pagnuelo/Mont-Royal were my favourites for ambiance. Neighbours welcomed everyone. Festive.

A puppet show scene featuring two Outremont council members and three people from the public, including Sue Montgomery knitting in green (for women’s time) and red (for men’s time). We see more red. A girl holds a poster “Les voitures = pas de futur!!!, Le futur = pas de voitures”

It’s more akin to the Matilda effect than to plagiarism - collaboration that leads only to the recognition of the guy who imposed himself as PI to control the funds. If you are lucky, he might thank you at the awards ceremony. #WomenInSTEM

The frustrating part is that the paid ad from the City of Montréal showing up at the top of the search is about street closures and not about where to go to watch the race! It was extremely annoying yesterday. No wonder SMF left her federal Minister of Tourism job. She's quite terrible at it.

David Quammen's essay in The New York Times today closes with this paragraph. It's both a scientific falsehood, and an incredibly dangerous narrative. If you're willing to give me five minutes of your time, I'd like to explain why.
The Ebola virus doesn’t need to spill back. It abides in its reservoir host, and awaits its next opportunity. A virus can’t climb out of a bat or a monkey and fly off in search of human prey. It can only spill over. If humans left the reservoir host alone — not hunting it, not capturing it, not eating it, not exporting it live, not disturbing its forest habitat — the virus wouldn’t re-emerge in humans. It would remain where it is, harming no one. But of course that’s not what happens. And when viruses spill, they often spill into us, because the human population is such a big, busy target.
