This cycle plays every 10 years. Before it was no-code. Before that it was outsource code. Before that it was generate code from UML... Every single time, after 2-5 years, the projects died with catastrophic money and reputation loss. Then I get called to fix it and double my prices. Love it.

For years, companies have been turning developers into assembly line workers. AI is just the next step on that path. Developers are replaceable, there is nothing that says they all have to be humans, is there? There are multiple paths forward. emma.has-a.blog/articles/dev...

Most managers think that AI coding agents can help junior engineers be more like senior ones. The reality I've experienced is that it's more like giving a junior engineer a mediocre mentor. And it gives senior engineers a junior engineer companion... who will never develop into a senior engineer.

I have not run the power/tokens consumption numbers but I ran an experiment running Claude against local GPT-OSS on AoC (closer than a single query) On average, GPT-OSS required 20+ minutes driving my graphics card full steam (more than 20W) to achieve what Claude was doing in less than 5 minutes

The GPT-OSS:20Bbi have been test driving during my AoC experiment is fully local (ollaman with vulkan, not ROCm, and OpenCode) and is very decent. You do need 16Gb of vRam (or Apple's equivalent)

since you have the data and are considering self-hosting anyway, have you considered hosting an archive (static?) website that would hold that piece of the past? I might be a better route than trying to push that archive on here?

Grapelli is in a category of its own, doing a lot of non-standard things with the admin. As far as other 3rd-party packages, they might be rendered useless (enabling custom admin actions for example) and in most cases easier (the things they offer for "regular Django" will also work in the admin)

So far this is only a proof of concept. If it gets enough traction and enthusiasm, a DEP and so on, the plan is to offer close to 100% compatibility with the current admin's top-level documented API. So you can copy an `admin.py` file to `djadmin.py` and see what works and what breaks.

By pretty acceptable I mean that, at first glance, listing records will throw an error because it is trying to render a json list (JsonResponse needs to be set as unsafe) and it is redefining get_form_class in the mixin while it shouldn't.

This is correct. I would add: generally, a system can be considered sufficiently secure if the value extractable by circumventing security controls exceeds the cost of doing so. A safe that costs $1000 to break into containing $100 is sufficiently secure, but insufficient if you put $10,000 in it.
