i’m someone who lives with psychosis. some of the kindest sweetest people i know are psychotic. calling someone a psycho when what is actually meant is “i find their beliefs dangerous & reprehensible” is the fastest way for me to lose any shred of respect i had for whomever says it.

It does the nice narrative work of establishing things about the world, the challenges, etc. while also being the first time the Rowend gets to see Casidra as someone strong and in control of her destiny.

Early on, Casidra and Rowend are scraping by, trying to get money together for a train ticket to New Orleans in this world where they're both refugees, when Casidra stumbles on an underground cage fight. She wins, fighting an animal, but the human fighters challenge her, offended at her victory.
