Great question! If you can't get down to the ground on your own, Hold On becomes an important step: hold on to something as well as you can to prevent being thrown to the ground during shaking. Also get as low/stable as you comfortably can. More: www.earthquakecountry.org/accessibility

Lots of folks felt that earthquake yesterday. Had it been stronger, there's a chance people might have fallen and gotten hurt. That's why we suggest people drop to the ground if possible -- an essential part of drop, cover and hold on.

#OTD 9/29/2009: A tsunami killed 192, brought destruction to the Kermadec-Tonga Subduction Zone in the south Pacific. This event sent a tsunami towards American Samoa, Samoa and the Tonga Islands. Learn about our state's tsunami risk reduction efforts at mil.wa.gov/tsunami

My amended emergency proclamation this week extended state Individual Assistance for eligible Washingtonians affected by fires for 60 days and added 5 counties.  So far, we’ve disbursed $654,000 to 430 households.
