Thurston County workers, Rhiver Cox and Leif Rankin called 911 after finding a man with no pulse slumped in the driver’s seat of his pickup. Rhiver and Leif secured the still running truck and performed CPR until firefighters and police arrived.

Jessica Moyer found her Dept. of Natural Resources coworker slumped over and notified Steve Ogden. Jerry Mizar went for the AED. Steve used the AED and performed CPR while Jerry provided rescue breaths.

Raul Ramirez was headed to lunch and saw a customer on the ground. Raul couldn’t find a pulse and began CPR. The man’s heartbeat came back, and stopped, two times. Raul resumed CPR each time. Medics arrived, used an AED and took the victim to the hospital.  #2026LifesavingAwards

A group of wildland firefighters in Montana were eating dinner when a crew member felt food get stuck in his throat. Adrian Gutierrez, a member of the WA State Depart. of Natural Resources’ Lacamas Hand Crew, performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to clear the blockage.

Fish and Wildlife technicians Jacob Portnoy and Noah Collell were on a routine survey when they found a man who had fallen into a canyon. They provided first aid and blankets. Jacob climbed back up the canyon to call for help. Noah remained with the man until help arrived.

Workers at the Department of Agriculture Seed Lab in Yakima saw a coworker lose consciousness, fall, hit her head on the floor, and start convulsing. Oliver Hoffman called 911. Alene Clement and Trudy Arndt placed the victim in the recovery position and made sure she was safe.

L&I’s Safety & Health Investment Projects (SHIP) grant program is taking applications for a $175,000 grant to implement ideas to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. It also provides grants to implement innovative return-to-work programs for injured workers.

Ryan Long saw his Boeing coworker laying on the floor at work, unresponsive. He called Boeing’s emergency line and performed CPR for 10 minutes until paramedics arrived. The medics were impressed with Ryan’s courage and quick response, critical to saving his coworker’s life.

Our investigation into a March complaint at the Nippon Dynawave mill in #Longview--unrelated to the May 26 fatal tank failure--found that the company did not document their safety plans or keep required records relating to an ammonia tank used to treat wastewater at the facility.

When wildfire reaches your doorstep, the last thing you need to worry about is your paycheck. In Washington, workers can use paid sick leave if your workplace OR your childcare/school closes because of a declared emergency. That includes if you are under a mandatory evacuation order.
