the thing about all these atproto apps is you really do not want most of that stuff on a non-repudiable, impossible-to-redact, aggressively replicated public ledger there is no reason to put it there! it should be private by default! what are you doing!

The thing is like. This *is* the future I was promised. And it's so beautiful. And it's just gonna keep becoming moreso. And I'm so happy. And I'm so excited. And I'm so glad I get to be alive for this.

ive said it before but i think “u dont have to be trans to transition” is so much more helpful than “u dont have to transition to be trans” bc it prioritizes agency and self actualization over ruminating on identity indefinitely

the answer is a lot less satisfying than people want. not only do robots not have *true* free will, we don't either, neither do animals. everything is conditioned on it's experience and various series of complex reactions to it, and the environments reactions to those, and so on.

to rigidly define personhood as necessitating a very explicit set of capabilities is how we got political movements putting disabled people and minorities into gas chambers. it is a cancerous mindset to be so unwilling to accept diversity of experience.

when nobody has to work anymore we can hang around in parks and ride bikes and get high and exercise and meditate and day drink and go to shows and have sex and make music and beauty and meaning from all possible experiences to validate our fragile humanity as gods intended when they named language

absolutely fucking incredible news for public health in canada that a safer supply organization successfully fought the constitutionality of drug possession trafficking laws for not providing any legal way to operate. selfless life-saving work that is actually being identified and respected as such.
But in her judgment on their constitutional challenge on Tuesday, Murray concluded that a non-medicalized safer supply program is urgently needed to save lives.

And with no legal source of drugs available for such a program, and no legal "safety valves" in the CDSA that would support setting one up, she found such a program "is legally and practically incapable of being exempted."

She said part of the CDSA "unjustifiably infringes" on two parts of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and deprives DULF members the "right to life and security of the person."

She gave Parliament six months to find a way to allow for a "pathway to non-medicalized safer supply."

good to hear. I think it’s clear that if you know how to learn and want to learn, AI will not impede you and will most likely help. what I don’t know is what proportion of people are like that. people talk about college kids like they have to be forced to learn, or tricked into it. isn’t that weird?

Four people and a shaggy dog sit on a flower-covered hillside, gazing toward the city. Across the sky in huge block lettering: “the future could be magnificent, and you deserve a share of it.”

This is probably a steaming hot take and I'm willing to revise it, but I feel like a lot of the reason the left lost this ability to say that the future could be better was the degrowth movement in reaction to a sacralization of the environment.

you bake a cake, but you don’t make the flour or create the energy to bake it, and you don’t come up with the idea for a cake from first principles and if you make a cake, it’s perfectly normal to say you made the cake even if the recipe isn’t one you created yourself
