Leonard Nimoy was more than a colleague—he was a friend, an ally, and my political soulmate. Leonard played a half-human, half-Vulcan officer—a being caught between two worlds. Yet in his own life, he was perhaps the most profoundly human person I have ever known.

When President Tyler took over for the deceased President Harrison and issued one too many vetoes, Tyler's cabinet resigned and his party expelled him *while he was in office*. Then they tried to impeach him.

They're going to hand over Greenland. Europe has limited its support for a war in its backyard driven by a foe that is many times less powerful than the US. No one is going to stop Trump from simply dumping troops into Greenland and occupying it until everyone signs the paperwork. I want to be wrong

Trump is literally doing Hitler's two pursuits - rounding up "unwanted" people and bringing foreign lands under his control - and no one seems to be framing it this way. I don't think there's room anymore to overreact to what Trump is doing. We are at maximum danger. We are underreacting.

Reading the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich - where the author occasionally says "In my notes that night I wrote..." - makes me think we should all be keeping journals and storing them in a way they can't easily be burned or deleted.

If I were in school right now, I would be studying what genAI shows us about language and what the ethics are of working with machines. I know AI is unpopular but to me it is a fascinating science. Fix the environmental issues and I would be experimenting with it all day.

Newspaper article from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, April 26, 1932, titled Catholic Party May Join Nazis To Rule Prussia, subheading Centrists Believe Hitler Will Moderate Views if Given Responsibility. The short article describes the debate within the Catholic Centrist party in Prussia at the time about whether to partner with the Nazis as a means of reining in their growing power. The article goes on to give headcounts for the parties and share the prediction that the Nazis will moderate when they have more responsibility and when their election promises prove to be too difficult to implement.

Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.

I haven't seen anyone speculate that part of Trump's motivation for his assault on Venezuela and Maduro in particular is to align himself with last year's Nobel Peace Prize winner in hopes of earning himself the same. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I would put that above oil as a motivator.
