Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 14hreminds me of when the credit card machines at the Bürgerämter in Berlin got a software upgrade – except some were too old and it bricked them! For weeks, some offices couldn't take cards, but also had no facilities for cash anymore, so had to give people invoices to pay by Banküberweisung! 100
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I'm so pleased you said that. I often think Brits don't realise how good they've got it! 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Tbh I don’t have a lot of sympathy. Dual passport holders should have both passports. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t. There's been plenty of publicity, albeit mostly articles in the paper about people being denied boarding in exactly these circs! 100
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I've seen people being denied boarding at the gate, and it usually breaks my heart. I think of the hassle – and cost – and usually involves tears on the part of the person being refused. no need for shouting tho, esp by staff. that's unprofessional 110
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026my guess is they didn't even glance at the details. it's whatever the AI spat out 010

And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds. 7069801907
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026me too! there was one car literally about to be lifted and the driver came and jumped in and started to drive off… as he was doing a U-turn, the policeman told him to stop while he finished writing the ticket. schadenfreude! :) 110
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026My street has both sides closed to parking today so they can prune the trees. Supposed to start at 7am. It’s now 10.30 and they're still waiting for a tow truck to take away cars which ignored the signs. First police have to come, who call a truck, which takes them away, one by one. Takes hours! 120
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Genau! I mentioned this to my German friend, who'd never noticed and was delighted. Then she pointed out the very literal two words of break fast, which I'd never noticed before! 010
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I like it. Apply other words before it, to make different things. Zahlautomat. Fotoautomat. Makes learning German easier than it first seems :) 110
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Rent controls may also make it difficult to move home. People get stuck, and changing life circumstances mean they need to move but can't. 2180

Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026When you say "hiding it", are you otherwise in the habit of prancing round the Hof with your washing, "Hey na! Guck mal! Ich mache meine Klamotten sauber!" while flinging pants and socks hin und her? 110
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Has @theguardian.com started using AI to write their headlines? The last few I've read in my feed are really weird and don’t quite make sense 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Two things stand out: One, the pole had already been cut down, so not clear what he thought the point was. Two, HE PLANTED A FUCKING BOMB! Reform are soft on crime. 030
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The air ambulance used to confuse me bc the organisation is a charity but staff are seconded NHS doctors. Gov doesn't fund it because they can sadly get away with not; ppl are happy to donate. "Neutrality" is cheaper. Why would they fund it when public is apparently happy to do so? 🤨 020
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026He's adorable. Strong personality, loves his routine, will do high 5 for treats 🥰 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Someone had already cut down the pole earlier in the day. They got caught by the same investigation team. Not sure what this guy blew up, but he's clearly a bit thick. 040
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I used to do this for work. I'm sure most people didn't fully understand the questions. Often very badly written, repetitive and boring. But we weren't allowed to deviate from the script at all. Supervisors would listen in and we'd be in big trouble. 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026yeah I tend to space my phone number into 3s and 4s, like +49 6789 123 4567. but what's with all the brackets and dashes and nonsense like that? German landline numbers used to be a series of two digit numbers. Hearing achtundneunzig, tzwoundsechsig… is really hard for newbies to German! 120
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Facebook Messenger does this weird thing when someone tells you their phone number in a message, it reformats it into US style, so (for example) +49 6789 1234567 is shown as +496 (789)123-4567 🤪 110
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Easybank charge 2€ if you pay 100% of bill by Lastschrift. That's something they introduced recently. But no charge if you pay manually it by Überweisung, or if you pay less than 100% automatically. I noticed some cards no longer allow you to pay balance by Lastschrift at all, which is also silly. 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026You're right, it makes no sense. I had the same paying £ (from Revolut) into my Halifax account in UK, because I wanted to use the GB IBAN instead of sort code. Silly ways to make money off people! 200
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Albee also loves bedtime. Whatever time of day it is, if he sees me heading towards the bed, he'll zoom past me, run to the far side nearest the window and await head bumps 🥰 📷 @eliotlovell.bsky.social 1100
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Avoid the charges by using a card that doesn't apply additional charges for foreign currencies. Luckily there are a few of these. Easybank (formerly Barclays visa) is offering 75€ when you start using it. Or Hanseatic if you like pretty card designs but don't care about bad customer service ;) 100
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026And people can't even say the word rape without fearing the algorithm will censor or ban them :( 000
Elliot @els76uk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026… and if you're planning on going to the supermarket at your nearest train station, for goodness' sake don't wait till after lunch! I made that mistake once, never again! 110
