In my experience being anti-AI is much more similar to caring about covid. In both cases, despite a preponderance of evidence of harms, making the argument of "actually I don't consent to that harm" leads to people yelling that this 'new normal' is inevitable and you're a backwards paranoid fool.

can't stop thinking about the parallels of AI and covid, two things for which my firm, safety-informed stance causes conflict and leaves me at a short-term disadvantage (since the 'compromise' is almost always 'you do you').

we know what continual usage of chatbots and genAI tools does to cognition. we know what it does to critical thinking. we know how much bias is baked in and reinforced. I don't think this coworker has any idea that colleagues might find this upsetting, or that the "piggie" of it all is offensive.
