Manu.is is a great interface & will try it out/test it with students. Just wondering, in your opinion, what makes it better than tools that do exactly the same thing: T-PEN, Mirador or FromThePage? (unfortunately our IT bocks vocabula.lat due to security issues with the site! Very disappointing)

The climate crisis in one sentence: We have enough food, technology, and money to save the planet. We just have a system where destroying it is more profitable. That's not a climate problem. That's a greed problem. #ClimateJustice

Yes to this! It is sometimes quite frustrating, even more so when dealing with fragments (and no other part of the book survives). Caution required really.

One of AI’s major problems remains its inability to stop. It does not acknowledge its own limits because it’s been trained to spit something out no matter how misplaced or downright ridiculous it gets. Wondering about how much you actually don’t or cannot understand - there’s the rub.

Thread. It was just a matter of time before headlines misused the term "medieval". So I'm thankful more knowledgeable colleagues have addressed this issue to clarify that e.g. empathy is not a new invention, there were a variety of practices & not a general acceptance, etc. Here you go!

This new CNN piece by @jechristensen23.bsky.social has good, up-to-date info on plague: www.cnn.com/2026/10/08/h.... A good start if you need to catch up. Remember: plague's global distribution has already been well-known. There is no evidence that anything about the disease has changed recently.

From 2019 to 2025, 10 countries reported almost 4,000 suspected human plague cases and 423 deaths. Health officials say the current risk to the public “appears to be low.”

Been reworking old lectures (plus writing new ones) for my 1st term medieval survey module & noticed something. Previously I threw in humorous memes etc as a bit of a break but now I'm second guessing all of them. It's been a while since I taught intro level & I'm not sure this will fly anymore...?!

We have had "examination seminars" for undergrad dissertations (Sweden) as long as I have been teaching here (so a pre GenAI thing!). They also act as an opponent for a fellow student. It is a way to see how well they know their topic. They also have a chance to make (minor) corrections afterwards.
