Took a class of undergrads down to the Milledgeville asylum on Saturday. My 5th visit and each trip orients me differently. This time I thought a lot about the communitarian ambitions of this place when it opened in 1842 and the precise mechanisms by which it became a site of abuse and suffering.

So one of my favorite letters in the Solanas collection (it’s almost finished!) is her note to Robin Morgan. Morgan wants to publish an excerpt from SCUM Manifesto in the Sisterhood is Powerful anthology. Solanas’s reply from prison: “If you can’t write, anthologize. Keep plugging, Baby” 🖤

I’m in final stages of getting the volume of Solanas letters to press. Pulling together possible images for inclusion. This is Solanas in Warhol’s 1967 “I a Man.” One of the few times in her 7-minute scene that she is center frame. That’s Tom Baker in the corner. m.youtube.com/watch?v=sPQV...

‘My lovely distraction’: Live stream of kākāpō – world’s fattest parrot – and her chicks captivates New Zealand
More than 100,000 people have tuned in to watch ‘kākāpō cam’, which captures a rare flightless bird sleeping, tidying her nest and fighting off intruders On an island in New Zealand’s remote southern fjords, one of the world’s strangest and rarest parrots – the kākāpō – is caring for her tiny chick as fans from across the globe watch on. Through the black and white lens of a hidden camera, a fluffy orb with a kazoo-like squeak jostles for food from its mother’s beak. The mother, Rakiura, is attentive – scooping her chick under her large green wings, fending off an intruding bird, and periodically tidying her nest. Continue reading...
