Sorenson --> Sørenson #AmEditing #NonAngloNameSolidarity This one was on me; authors of the paper I'm editing had this correct in a footnote citation--but the item was missing from their bibliography. I had typed it in carelessly when adding it the other day. Just noticed when doing a check of URLs.

This is distinctly my species lately. We tend to make our dens cozy and be hesitant to leave them too often or for too long. We often share them with four-legged species in a symbiotic fashion.

Put another way, Ford wants to spend more on removing bike lanes in Toronto ($48M) than he's spent protecting all of Ontario's businesses from an international trade war. Ontario deserves serious leadership, that follows through on promises, and actually puts people before profits.

Yikes--I so was caught up in the "A" in "De-Amalgamation" in this title, double checking my memory that CMOS had changed its advice to capping it, that I ALMOST missed the lowercase i in "is"! Whew. (It's rare to find two glitches in one entry in this bibliography; authors done good!) #AmEditing

inter-jurisdictional --> interjurisdictional I'd be lying if I said I loved it, but we're using intergovernmental & intermunicipal (as well as intramunicipal), all of which turn up regularly in this subject matter. I think the likely readers can take it & the consistency is useful. #EditorThoughts

The strongest point Lewis makes here is that Carney is “out on a limb here” No one asked voters if they wanted to privatize airports. No one was talking about this. It’s unclear Liberal MPs are even on board with this It feels like a random pet issue Carney is pushing on his own out of the blue

Patio breakfast overlooking Lake Ontario. Feels like a perfect (and even patriotic!) morning to me. Henry, however, is unimpressed.
Henry the wolfhound sprawls almost flat on a flagstone patio that nearly matches his colouring.Beyond the patio railing is a stand of trees, with - gasp - a few areas of orange leaf. The lake is visible in the small gaps between the branches and the bit of sky is perfect: bright blue with a few fluffy clouds.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

A favourite thing to show American visitors is a standard map of Ontario, fully unfolded. They're amazed at how close all the built-up areas are to the border - how nearly empty the upper 80% of the map looks. Then I turn the map over and show them the other side, with actual *Northern* Ontario.

Saw Coyote vs. ACME at the drive-in on Saturday night. So, Gen X nostalgia on overdrive. 🥰 One week left in the Drive-In season and the movies finally start (just!) early enough for us to manage-- a short one, anyway (so, we will not be seeing Spider-Man there this weekend 😀).
From inside our car through our windshield you see the back of the main drive-in screen, very old-school, with "Mustang" in red script mostly worn away but "DRIVE-IN" in black still clear. A marquee sign shows that Coyote vs. ACME is on screen 1 and Spider-Man on screen 2. (The blank front of which is visible in the distance in the left.)
