I would have assumed Ruth's ethnic self-loathing peaked years ago. She's a bit like a child who constantly threatens they're going to run away and then when they do, no one notices they've gone.

Amidst a failing war the US started, the SecDef chose to focus on measuring military members’ hormones, and injecting testosterone into personnel whose hormone levels he dislikes. He also fixates on PT while losing an air war. If you said this to someone a few years ago, they wouldn’t believe you.

Apparently people are trying to doxx Cornell’s Jane Doe. I have never felt so concerned about a Jane Doe in my entire life. I am shaken. It is so incredibly difficult for women to pursue justice. Sexual assault causes higher PTSD rates than war. This excerpt is by Rebecca Solnit.
former Marine David J. Morris, author of a book on post-traumatic stress disorder, notes that the disorder is far more common and far more rarely addressed among rape survivors than combat veterans. He wrote me, "The science on the subject is pretty clear: according to the New England Journal of Medicine, rape is about four times more likely to result in diagnosable PTSD than combat.
Think about that for a moment-being raped is four times more psychologically disturbing than going off to a war and being shot at and blown up. And because there are currently no enduring cultural narratives that allow women to look upon their survival as somehow heroic or honorable, the potential for enduring damage is even greater."

Thank goodness Burnham's government seems to be getting real about environmental protection and national resilience, and grasping the fundamental link between those things. It's such a relief to hear this after the deep disappointment of the Starmer years.

There's a tool on the BBC News website that lets you enter your postcode and see how much hotter the weather where you live was this summer compared to the long-term average. It's worse than I expected. 1/2
Screenshot of a page on the BBC News website - a summary describing average daily temperatures in my postcode during this past summer:

Temperature

In your area, the average daily
high during June, July and August
was [43:18 according to

This is EEAeE110=) the long-term

Your area had about 34 days
above 28C, the local temperature
threshold for a heatwave.

What about the year to date?
