I certainly didn't come up with the idea of a blog post or piece of work in general summing up the year, even if the originators tended to focus on a more current target. However, I believe that nobody does this specific thing on a more in depth basis than I do or offers up as much (in wrestling coverage or personally, although being twelve in 2002, this is less the year for that) in a year end article as I do.

This was for Satomura and Hamada's AAAW Tag Team Titles. On paper, this is not ideal. We only have eighteen minutes out of a twenty seven minute match, and I'm just never going to love that. It's a literal third of the match that's missing, and I've never done well with that level of uncertainty, especially in a style like this and especially with a wrestler as mercurial, to put it nicely, as Manami Toyota involved.

One of the great gifts you can receive as a wrestling fan is to find a match that you didn't know existed and badly badly wanted. Sometimes that's a dream match, but other times, it comes in the form of simply getting another volume in a beloved series you thought you had seen everything from.

WRESTLE-1 was a short lived side project drawing in All Japan Pro Wrestling and K-1, among others, and it's one of the weirder cards you could ever find. Kendo Kashin teams with famous fight Caol Uno (under a deeply unfortunate name that I sort of want you to experience for the first time for yourself) against La Parka and Super Parka.
