Everyone needs to listen to Gustav Holst's "The Planets", not for hoity-toity nerd reasons, but because every epic sci-fi movie OST for the past century has been directly lifting shit from this one specific collection of pieces, and you deserve to hear your favourite motif in its native environment.

You know, I didn't particularly care for this art back in circa nineteen hundred and ninety three, but today I am absolutely in love with Ricardo Delgado’s gothic vision for #StarTrek Deep Space Nine. /1

I'll make this my book review tread. 4/5 ⭐ to "Crusaders: The Epic History of the Wars for the Holy Lands" by Dan Jones Not a lot of new facts for me, but I like Jones's style and his talent to pack a lot of stuff in one book. The chapter on late mini-crusades was interesting.

Anyway, back to my point: That basically, there is no right way to get fans into Trek except making more series that connect with ppl in different ways & let ppl connect w the franchise on their own terms

Finally got my hands on Star Trek Picard "Firewall" by @davidmack.bsky.social Mack rarely disappoints, so I'm looking forward to another chapter of Seven's story. Also it's been quite a while, since I've read a physical Star Trek book 😁

This is the first autumn in 5 years without new episodes of #StarTrekLowerDecks.😢 Man, I really miss the show!!! It always made me laugh (I need that now!) and it had the deepest and most outrageous callbacks. Plus: it showed that it IS totally okay to talk about chairs on starships - I feel heard!

Controversial Star Trek opinion: Starfleet as a vehicle for storytelling is played out The franchise hints at Starfleet not being so virtuous, then has its characters drink the Kool-Aid anyway. DS9, PIC s1-2, PRO scratched the surface of stories about every day people, there's way more to tell

If you remember early #StarTrekDiscovery production, writer Ted Sullivan (shown here holding Jason) was admonished by CBS for showing a green screen, as if somehow that ruined the magic for fans. So he created something that he could post, Jason Gorn! It kind of had a life of its own for a while.

Gason Gorn in a Discover uniform beaming down to Hollywood in front of the Cinerama Dome for the premier.

Writer Bo Yeon Kim (Boey) and Writer Ted Sullivan with Jason Gorn figure at the premiere

And of course, we had to have a mirror universe version of him named Jason Scorn. Shown here in an alternate Vasquez rocks with the Terran empire symbol behind him.

Seeing another post lamenting US TV doesn't do 26 episode seasons for most things any more is always going to be funny to me because, having read so many books on the making of things like 90s Trek, it's very clear the people making those shows fucking hated that system at the time.

While I wholeheartedly agree about the state of current Star Trek, I'll feel that Star Wars accolades analogy is rather hollow. The Mandalorian won a shitload of Emmys, while being very similar to SNW: a feel-good light plotted action show for those, who miss how it was done in the old days.

Feeling really conflicted about SNW. I’m glad that people are noticing and taking seriously the shows regressive streak that’s existed since S1. But I wish this wasn’t happening to a Star Trek series.
