Deeply concerning to hear that Disabled people are facing surveillance, with evidence of being physically active is used against us. The only 'welfare reform' the government should be talking about is a complete overhaul of this ableist system.

🚨 Joint statement: Unacceptable “concessions” on the disability cuts MUST be rejected. Signed by @justtreatment.org, @nsunnews.bsky.social, @dis-ppl-protest.bsky.social, Crips against Cuts, Mad Youth Organise and Taking the PIP. 👇 www.disabilityrightsuk.org/news/unaccep...
As disability rights organisations and grassroots campaigns, we are voicing our united and absolute opposition to the apparent concessions offered by the government on their proposed disability cuts.

We know that for many, including the MPs who took a principled stand by supporting the reasoned amendment that would have killed this bill, the government's offer looks like a win.

But we have been dealing with the benefits system for years and we know the potentially lethal effects the concessions being reported will have.

As Disabled people, we will not accept a Bill that condemns future generations of Disabled people to devastating cuts in their vital support in order to avoid that fate ourselves. Rather than fixing this Bill's dangerous attack on Disabled people, these concessions will introduce a new and cruel inequality into our communities. They will condemn young Disabled people, and those yet to be Disabled, to a future of poverty, hardship and worsening health. Not to mention those unable, or yet to apply due to how taxing the process of proving your eligibility is.

We are absolutely clear that no amount of "concessions" will make this government Bill acceptable. Any and all cuts made to the already limited support Disabled people rely on - both now and in the future - must be resisted.

Disabled people have a long history of solidarity with each other and other communities - it has been essential to our survival. The desperate attempts by the Prime Minister and his whips to buy votes by selling future Disabled people out - attempting to divide our community - will not work.

We know these "concessions" have only come about because of the tidal wave of resistance created by Disabled people and our allies over the last couple of months. They underestimated our power, and now they are underestimating our strength of solidarity.

We know the MPs who listened to us, who have stood with us against these cuts to PIP and Univ

Global refugee populations from origin to asylum state in 2023. Fascinating and very well visualized.
The infographic provides a detailed visual representation of refugee movements worldwide in 2023, with over 30.5 million individuals displaced. Origin countries with significant refugee populations include Syria and Afghanistan, with many seeking asylum in Iran, Türkiye, and Germany. Lesser but substantial numbers originate from Ukraine, South Sudan, and other nations. Asylum countries range from Pakistan and Uganda to Western nations like Germany and the USA. The data visualized using a Sankey diagram emphasizes the breadth of the global refugee crisis, highlighting the scale and diversity of both origin and asylum countries. Data is sourced from the UNHCR and presented by Preyash Shah.

One more time for ministers at the back: it’s entirely possible to be a taxpayer and to receive benefits. As someone currently in the mid-tax band and on PIP, I’m more than happy for my earnings to help people who can’t work - and to pick up the state support I’m entitled to.
But Reeves herself seems in no mood to back down. In an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning, where she was responding to the growth figures, Reeves was asked about the plans for welfare cuts. She replied:

We will set out our plans for welfare reform, but it is absolutely clear that the current system is not working for anyone.
It is not working for people who need support, it’s not working to get people into work so that more people can fulfil their potential, and it’s not working for the taxpayer when the bill for welfare is going up by billions of pounds in the next few years.
So, we do need to get a grip. We need to spend more on national defence, but we need to reform our public services, and we need to reform our broken welfare system.
