Future of Amazon rainforest policies at stake in Brazilian presidential election
Brazil’s upcoming presidential election could reshape the Amazon's future. Control of the country, which contains about 60% of the rainforest, could pass to Sen.

Fossil fuels are awful... renewables backed by 10% gas (firmed in the table) are very far from 0. The best electricity is the one not generated at all. All renewables are a lot better than fossils, but still not zero. Nuclear has the lowest carbon foot print.

Cars have long been commonly associated with freedom in the United States, and it is often assumed that everyone in the country loves to drive. But our latest research tells a different story of a population seeking another type of independence: freedom to move around without cars.

1/ So it’s official. Faced with a choice between whales and oil, our Prime Minister chose oil. Faced with a choice between a safe climate and more fossil fuel expansion, he chose oil again. Today, Mark Carney announced yet another mammoth oilsands pipeline. #cdnpoli #bcpoli 🧵

BREAKING 📣 For several days, a peaceful protest took place in the morning, after a young child was killed by a car driver. The child was riding his bike to school, the father with him. The grieving community came together with hundreds of people, cyclist or not, creating a 3km long human bike lane.

When will this remarkable growth in sun and wind powered electricity start putting a dent in total GHG emissions? From all the other charts on rising temperatures and risks by @zekehausfather.com it seems we need more of an abolition than a transition.

It does more than undermine credibility. These are actually the things that are destroying the earth. Everyone needs to stop with or without another new policy. But people tend to do what they are used to and what the social norm is - not what is evidenced based.

We designed our cities and lives around cars, promising efficiency and freedom. Instead, we got traffic, stress, and lost life. The car promised autonomy, but it actually made us dependent, deprived, and ill.

Do you think it would be better to look at huge countries through their states/provinces? Mixing up data from Inner Mongolia and Shanghai doesn't really say anything about the parts I would guesd. Like mixing Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil or Sweden and Bulgaria in the EU.

The motornormativity is sadly very hegemonic. Yes growing cars are a madness. And autobesity is unfortunatly not only a US or German problem. Looking at those new SUVs in China they seem to grow larger by the day.
