Still the problem stands. Increasing demand make increasing renewables a net zero contribution to lowering global emissions so far. Demand need to go down fast. Fressoz says switching to low carbon electricity is the easy part. Ed Conway's substack latest post is an example of the problem.

At the same time on @edconway.bsky.social substack. Solving electricity demand with low carbon generation is just one part. As Fressoz says it is the easy part.

Lets play pick your favourite picture... so solar capacity is bigger. What about generation? What about coal generation actually falling as fast as solar capacity increase? Solar capacity growth shows that solar industry is busy, but unfortunatly it doesn't necessarily equal falling emissions.

Wonder when they will invent a rule for the width of tires/wheels? Increasing by 1 inch seem to use a lot more energy 🤯 Comparison from fueleconomy.gov

Yeah declining rates should be helpful theoretically. This diagram on GDP growth doesn't seem to have a correlation with your population growth rate as far as I can see. So is Fressoz possibly right then that population growth/decline ≠ GDP/material/energy growth/decline?

The difference between looking at "ages of..." and the accumulated totals. I guess the market might have one concern while the planet has another... @thierryaaron.bsky.social is the glas half empty or half full?

I cant remember seeing a summary placing ferries above airplanes. Where is the data supporting flight?

No surprise as renewables have had a hard time keeping up with growing demand. The scale of the build out of coal plants last year is mindblowing. More than the rest of the world combined and even more...

Realmente Fressoz no esta contra una transición. Solo esta haciendo una investigacion sobre la historia. Y realmente lo que todavia esta pasando en muchos paises y sectores. El cambio, de existe, es demasiado lento.

The worlds biggest electric scooter company launches 4 models with a newly developed Sodium battery! Great news for sustainability, but it seems to have a short life time of 5 years. Maybe at least the replacement will be cheap! #ev #sodium #sib carnewschina.com/2025/01/08/y...

Razor thin margin between BYD and Tesla in all electric (BEV) cars for the full year of 2024. BYD got a lot of volume from increased sales of the small BEVs as the Seagull and the new Yuan UP. In the last quarter of 2024 BYD smashed Tesla BEV sales by 100 000 cars! #ev #tesla #byd #musk

Brazil and Saudi Arabia some of China's key EV export markets. While Russia is the biggest ICE export market. All of them are oil producers. BYD trends in exports this year shows large part of PHEVs in Brazil while sales in EU are mostly BEV. No signs of sales falling because of tariffs yet. #ev

Hi! In Sweden reading the Blue Machine from my local library. Interested in ecology, history, technology, geopolitics etc. Big interest in energy transition in China as it is less covered than Europe and US, and bigger stakes. Will add some of my thoughts on that. Any starter packs you suggest?
