When will this remarkable growth in sun and wind powered electricity start putting a dent in total GHG emissions? From all the other charts on rising temperatures and risks by @zekehausfather.com it seems we need more of an abolition than a transition.

Not sure about the "return" part, but the limit and adapt are fundamental conditions for life. Sadly, rather than radicallising everyone and everything, the news will just be more munition for the trendy catastrophist climate doomsday people. We really need a true and international just TRANSITION.

Lets play pick your favourite picture... so solar capacity is bigger. What about generation? What about coal generation actually falling as fast as solar capacity increase? Solar capacity growth shows that solar industry is busy, but unfortunatly it doesn't necessarily equal falling emissions.

Energy supply is entangled not only materially but very much politically. It makes these apparent pardoxes of the energy transition possible when the share of renewables grow in parallell to the absolute capacity and generation of coal power in China.

This is way it is never the "new normal" even without tipping points. Emissions adds up syncronized to the energy additions in society. What we might see by 2030 is that the last decade was beyond some tipping point driving even faster acceleration.

This inteview is really enlightning about why IPCC scenarios are not able to account for tipping points. And how models since 2010 are dependent on big CCS deployment that is not close to happening. We need CCS because we have to for the model to get to the goal wanted. Not because it is realistic.
