Germany's battery electric vehicle market share reached a record 35% in September. This beat the previous record of 33% from December 2022, which was spurred by expiring incentives. In the last 12 months, more than a quarter (26%) of new cars in Germany were BEVs.

Corporate fleets may be incentivised to move to EVs anyhow, because ICE and hybrid cars won’t hold their value, which reduces their collateral value in securitisations and thus increases cost.

Two clear indicators that CO₂ reduction is not a serious priority: - Plug-in hybrids must retain their fictional (rather than the actual, 5x higher) emissions - No requirements for corporate fleets (the largest buyers of new cars) to electrify their fleets faster than private individuals

In 2020/1 you could sell a 3 year old ICE joint venture car in China for 60-70% of its original selling value. By 2026 that number is only maybe 40% for the same 3 year old car. The great reset isn't coming, it's here. Nobody wants ICE anymore.

There are also 'hard feelings' about the first wave of electrification. I have a collection of photos from 2010–2020 of Angela Merkel, a car and a plug surrounded by men in corporate suits. Those cars may not have been as successful as VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc. had hoped at that time.
