Yes, a better understanding of autism and ADHD will place a burden on the NHS and education systems. That is a reason to BETTER RESOURCE THOSE INSTITUTIONS, not to penalise children whose parents can't afford private diagnoses or make them suffer for 2 years before any chance of accessing support.

Eleanor @eleanorturney.co.uk · 25/09/2026
The story is infuriating, but so is the reporting. More children are being diagnosed because the diagnostic criteria have improved, and because parents and teachers are better educated and able to spot issues. What would previously have been called "naughty" or "acting out" is better understood.

1st: this is obvious bullshit (as parent of a child more than 2 years into a reportedly 3-year wait). 2nd: "the % of seven- to 18-year-old boys w. autism rose from 0.2% in 2000 to 4.7% in 2025." NO IT FUCKING DIDN'T. The % *diagnosed* rose. The % of autistic children probably didn't change!

a lot of love for the RNLI, as is right. once people are rescued and on dry land they need support and solidarity – consider donating to migrants' rights network too, or using their resources to get involved migrantsrights.org.uk

Sorting out my kid's hearing aid might break me. Aid issued in Lancs; we now live in Brum. Can the hospitals share records? Apparently not. Has it been fixed by Brum after I was told it was impossible? Apparently. Will they give it back? Not without an audiology appointment. Waiting time? Unknown.
