SiriusXM launched their “popup” channel for the Talking Heads today (Channel 145 for anyone wondering) and it got me thinking… Why is there still no station dedicated to two of the best bands of the last few decades? See my pitch below. (Call me, Sirius. I have ideas!)

I’m guest editing the next issue of Agita; send me your weirdest <1000 word stories about weird art. Authors from marginalized backgrounds encouraged and prioritized. No AI bullshit. The weirder the better. agitamag.com/submissions/
Issue 3: Ekphrasis
Between October 17 and November 17, guest editor Zachary Gillan will accept submissions of weird flash fiction that features ekphrasis.
Ekphrasis is the verbal representation of a work of visual art.
Weird fiction is a verbal representation of the world, in order to unsettle it.
We want stories that live at the intersection of the two. Pieces that emphasize the eerie power of weird art, whether fully ekphrastic or embedded within a traditional narrative. How does the weird seep in as reality is doubly estranged from these two layers of representation? Cursed paintings, uncanny statues, haunted mezzotints-send us your stories of weird art.

Publishers and Editors! I'm taking subs for Vol. 3 of the award-nominated "Best Weird Fiction of the Year" til end of the year. Writers! You'll get a chance to submit your 2026 stories in January. bestspecfic(at)gmail.com

Esteemed Editors and Publishers,

I am now taking submissions of original 2026 short fiction projects — magazines, anthologies, single-author collections — for consideration in The Best Weird Fiction of the Year, Vol. 3. (Publishing Sept. 2027). Vol. 1 is a World fantasy Award Finalist.

I am seeking material first published this year, in 2026. To be clear, only weird fiction FIRST published in 2026 is eligible for inclusion in this volume. I will accept translated work as long as the first English-language publication was 2026.

Stories should be between 500 and 17,499 words. Audio only stories are also ineligible, unless they also appeared as text.

Publishers and editors are encouraged to send electronic or digital copies, via the email address below. (I am not accepting hard copy submissions.) ePubs are preferred, but I will also accept text files (Word), Mobi, or PDF. Please do not cherry-pick selections. Send the entire book, journal, or magazine to:

bestspecfic@gmail.com

Thank you for your time and kind consideration.

Warm Wishes,

Michael

Rolled over to Netflix last night and saw they unceremoniously dropped the second half\season of One Hundred Years of Solitude. The first season was amazing, a brilliant adapation full of life and color. I have no idea why they wouldn't be advertising it all over the place.

I'm glad to see so much positivity around the latest Interpol album. I'm enjoying it a lot too. I don't think it's quite the musical one-eighty that like, say, Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base record, because Interpol has never shied away from a slow paced jam. Anyway, I like this song a lot.

Choose Your Own Constraint!

Hey hey, HADders! Lexi Rosen, here. While you can normally find me honking over at Silly Goose Press, Aaron and Crow were kind enough to pass over the keys to the skull pile this week and I can't wait to hand some out! I am SO excited to read your very best, RULE FOLLOWING pieces. I'm interested in constraints, patterns, syllables, rhyme schemes — whatever rules you've decided to follow are fair game for this call. Prose and poetry are welcome, but know that I prefer flash fiction and poems that can stick to one-ish page, and let's limit page counts to 3-5ish. That said, I care way more about the rules you're choosing to follow than the ones I lay out for you. Pretty please with a cherry on top let me know on a separate page (the last page, if possible!) of your attached submission document what rules and parameters you've decided to set (ie, I didn't use the letter E throughout the piece, I only wrote in haiku, every third word is an onomatopoeia, I had to use the word canteloup at least twice, etc), and feel free to include something about why, if you wanna — I love a craft choice and would love even more to hear about your process.
