I wanted to show y’all what I’m working on here first! It’s a Lilith amulet in the shape of a C1 (atlas) vertebra. My thought is that if you have something trapped in the bone where your head meets the rest of your body, it will be both the upper and lower limit of who you could be in the world
A cracked vertebra with a dark blob like figure in the middle. Both the figure and the vertebra are covered in Hebrew writingA silver medallion with a loosely human blob in the middle. She is surrounded by Hebrew writing

This is "The Confluence of the Two Seas," a legal treatise comparing schools of Islamic law, composed in the 13th century. Texts like this were produced with wide margins to allow readers to annotate as they studied. It was kept in the Omari Mosque in Gaza, destroyed by an Israeli airstrike in 2023.
Light yellowish paper bifolium with 11 lines of formal Arabic naskhi script in black ink, surrounded by many notes scrawled at diverging angles in the margins all around the main text. The classmark from the library of the Omari Mosque is MS 108. The manuscript has been digitised by the HMML reading room: https://w3id.org/vhmml/readingRoom/view/543020

A piece by yours truly about the first reference to a Deccan merchant association in a Geniza document. I had fun writing this one! Come for the merchant associations, and stay for the Ina Garten quote www.lib.cam.ac.uk/collections/...

I'm seeing people say this is the first time a Greek literary text was found in mummification material — weren't there famously a bunch of Sappho fragments excavated the same way? Misogynistic erasure?
