A study in HS shows that a chatbot trained to act as a tutor did not bolster learning, and the standard chatbot harmed it. Edutopia is not deterred, looks to college students for confirmation. The article ends with what looks like ads for Khanmigo and MagicSchool. #EdTech #EduSkyAI #EduAI

"AI does not suffer from bias, fatigue, or inconsistency, making it theoretically capable of delivering equal and objective education to all students." This misconception is incredibly dangerous to teachers and students. These systems tend to amplify, not erase, bias. #AI #TLSky #EduSkyAi

I guess if you consider 'marking' student writing to be comparing two pieces of writing and determining which one is better... okay? Another case of tech changing criteria rather than meeting them. "AI essay markers have been around for the 1960s" <- Yep, this isn't the hard part. #AIinEducation

I find it disturbing that "Ditch That Textbook" would advocate for circumventing thinking through how a template could work for a particular class. This is the type of cognitive labor that deepens teacher understanding of pedagogy and student experience. #EdTech #AIinEducation #EduSky

This post implies that 'AI' and LLMs are equivalent terms, and this person is running a PD on AI! The article itself demonstrates how #AIinEducation PD has become an avenue for marketing the products big tech is pushing on schools, rather than focusing on what works for student learning.

I do think people are trying their best with this, but how do we go from "AI is an umbrella phrase for systems designed to mimic human intelligence" to "AI is a tool" in a single article? It's this sort of ambiguity in terminology that makes it hard to talk about efficacy and impacts. #EduSky #AIEdu

As appealing as it may be to offload this thinking work in a time crunch, teachers should reflect on the value we bring when we (not software) decide how to prioritize feedback, create action items, etc. How much are we okay asking tech to 'speak directly to the student' for us? #EduSky #AiEdu

Silicon Valley seems hellbent on creating machines which can do our thinking for us.

Why should any of us want that? I certainly don’t want that - I don’t learn anything unless I do the mental work to create a complete framework of understanding in my mind.

I don’t talk about things I don’t understand because that’s the fastest way you can make a fool of yourself.

If you don't want to look up a course of study on a university website, an LLM can instead spit out a statistically likely one for you. It can also simulate a sycophantic discussion partner. Libraries, the Internet, MOOCs, and now... this. #EduSky #EdTech #AIinEducation

Edtechification @edtechification.bsky.social · 25/02/2025
I don't know. I asked ChatGPT about this, and it was quite negative about having an LLM design rubrics. It told me teachers should do it themselves because the process of crafting a rubric prompts teachers to deeply consider what skills and knowledge matter most in an assignment. #EduSky #AIEdu
1. Lack of Skill Development → If AI is always generating rubrics, newer teachers might struggle to create clear, meaningful assessment criteria on their own.
2. Less Critical Thinking About Assessment → The process of crafting a rubric forces teachers to deeply consider what skills and knowledge matter most in an assignment.
3. Risk of Using Generic or Misaligned Rubrics → AI-generated rubrics might not always align with specific curriculum goals, teaching philosophies, or student needs.
4. Reduced Adaptability → Experienced teachers can quickly adjust rubrics for different contexts. If newer teachers don’t practice this skill, they might struggle to modify AI-generated rubrics effectively.

Have software take something you said, decide exactly what you mean, and decide what you want students to do about it. I'm not sure that this is more human, and I'm worried that it's coming from someone teaching the kids how to communicate effectively. We need more time, not more tech. #EduSky

It is really that great for tech to be making up our evaluation criteria for us? Then to generate scales that essentially consist of "1-2pts: did it poorly; 3-5pts: did it somewhat; 6-8 pts: did it adequately; 9-10pts: did it very well" over and over? It's not a good rubric. #EdTech #AIinEducation
