Can you really blame them for thinking that when charters are talking about replacing teachers with AI and we have posts like this from the man laughing about using a chainsaw to cut government jobs? This is not "empowering" to educators. #AIinEducation
Palmer Lucky tweet saying "What will happen in broader academia when clear scientific consensus is that AI-assisted education delivers better outcomes than 3.8M teachers currently do?"

I'm not worked up, just don't understand who this 'Lumi' is you keep referring to. I hope the screenshot of the homepage shows how it's not helpful in answering the question. Can you just tell me? Is it a person? Software? Stuffie? The interaction below is why I thought 'Lumi' was a platform.
A post reading "This still doesn't tell me who 'Lumi' is and why they would make a good companion. Is it just a piece of software that the students are supposed to feel companionship with?" With a reply from Learn with Lumi reading: "Not at all. It is what I previously described, which is essentially a platform for homeschooling and independent learning that makes doing so easy for families. Again, learnwithlumi.com explains all this."

Is that 'okie dokie' as in you're agreeing with me that a platform is not a companion? You keep saying that it's explained on the site, but I hope a quick screenshot of the front page shows how it doesn't explain how it's a 'companion'. (Also, please note the use of alt text.)
Landing page for "Learn with Lumi", including a paragraph explaining some services, a list of various menu options, and some marking text about becoming "a knowledge ninja"

When you see things such as the AZ charter school marketing itself as having no teachers, or comments such as the one below, do you not worry that teaching as human-centered discipline is under threat? Not that tech can do the job, but that there are efforts to change the job into one they can do?

Teachers are quibbling over the percentage that ChatGPT contributes to cheating behaviors, while new charters are bragging about not having teachers and the face of the 'AI' takeover of government services is saying things like this. The objectives aren't secret. #EdTech #EduSky #AIinEducation

Apparently it's best in class with just under 27% accuracy on expert level questions. But don't worry, because it's getting close to 73% accuracy on questions that are 'conceptually simple' for humans, and almost 79% accuracy for the easiest ones. openai.com/index/introd...

I don't know. I asked ChatGPT about this, and it was quite negative about having an LLM design rubrics. It told me teachers should do it themselves because the process of crafting a rubric prompts teachers to deeply consider what skills and knowledge matter most in an assignment. #EduSky #AIEdu
1. Lack of Skill Development → If AI is always generating rubrics, newer teachers might struggle to create clear, meaningful assessment criteria on their own.
2. Less Critical Thinking About Assessment → The process of crafting a rubric forces teachers to deeply consider what skills and knowledge matter most in an assignment.
3. Risk of Using Generic or Misaligned Rubrics → AI-generated rubrics might not always align with specific curriculum goals, teaching philosophies, or student needs.
4. Reduced Adaptability → Experienced teachers can quickly adjust rubrics for different contexts. If newer teachers don’t practice this skill, they might struggle to modify AI-generated rubrics effectively.

SchoolAI continues to avoid answering the question of whether or not they have the permission of living people to be simulated in their product. It is a yes or no question. Note the subheading: "Interview Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai" #EdTech #AIinEducation
A public "Space" from SchoolAI with a thumbnail drawing of educational activist Malala Yousafzai, entitled "Malala Yousafzai, Interview Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai" with blurb "This space allows students to engage in an interactive interview with the AI persona of Malala Yousafzai. Students will explore her journey as an advocate for girls' education and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about her challenges and achievements, fostering a deeper understanding of education and human rights advocacy." and credited as "Created by SchoolAI".

I thought our children were our future?! Promote human intelligence by giving educators the resources and support they need, not telling them to turn to Big Tech to manage impossible workloads and expectations.

This is an ad from Adobe Education masquerading as a 'news' report on AI in the classroom. As always, educators beware of Big Tech pushing their own agenda under the guise of professional development resources. #EduSky #EduGuardians

Got the reply to this, and it's such #BigTech vibes to make vapid sweeping statements about a product, then when criticized for that style of marketing, smugly respond that the critic doesn't understand said product. #Teachers deserve clear communication from #EdTech and from #AIinEducation. #EduSky
A reply to a blocked comment reading "Tell me you don't have a clue what the book is about without telling me..."

So... you can't see the quote anymore, but these are the sorts of vapid, sweeping generalizations that make me skeptical of those pushing so hard for #AIinEducation. The marketing of #EdTech is in lockstep to that of #BigTech, but so out of step with the reality of our situation. #EduSky
Post reading "Schools are obsessed with finite learing. This is learning children unprepared for an infinite world. As a result, we are failing them. Prepare them for the future not our past. We cannot address negative impacts of technological tools in education unless we can admit they exist. Over and over, I see the attitude of "you just don't understand the tech" accompanied by a lack of interest of what educators are actually doing. #EdTech #aiineducation
Post saying 'Friends, I don't think bluesky is the new town square. Announced our cool new AI tool to improve education (AlldayTA.com!). Response: that I'm "only good as firewood", shame!, gross, scab...and not from randos, but from academics and a Yale Review Editor.' with screenshots of negative reactions to the product.
