I will never support a union-busting company, especially not when its unionized workers have been fighting for a contract for YEARS! No Starbucks for me, at my events, or in my office until Starbucks workers get the contract they deserve. #BoycottStarbucks

Foster was a fighter and a kind and gentle man. I got him to explain Ohio elections, tell me about working in South African politics, and what A Philip Randolph was like. And he was always helpful solving problems. Even years after he retired I’d still run into people he’d helped.

When I was an intern, starting at @aft.org, I volunteered for a demonstration. It got a rowdy w/the other side trying to take space. I didn't know what to do, but Foster Stringer pointed to the ground in front of us, smiled, and said “we stand right here.” I’ve been trying to do that ever since.

The right has fought a decades long battle to preempt the power of cities in the red states. If the election goes well, freedom for those cities needs to be part of the agenda.

Labor opposed it, but it didnt seem to me like we had any traction. My suspicion was that they were starting to feel the need to accumulate ammo for the next downturn as much as anything else. Matt Damon would have helped.

Statement from Abbe Lowell and Marilyn Bednarski, my emphasis:
"Today, the government filed a notice of its intent to dismiss the charge against David Huerta. When this becomes final, it means this case is gone forever.

"We said from the outset that this prosecution had no legal basis. David Huerta was arrested for peacefully protesting outside an ICE operation, exercising rights protected by the First Amendment. This case, like others, sought to silence criticism of the administration’s improper immigration actions. Today's filing is proof that David and other critics will not be silenced.

*"This case revealed that the Department of Justice was willing to charge a labor leader with a crime, hold it over him for months, and then walk away from it once the charge couldn't survive scrutiny.* That is not how a justice system is supposed to work.

"Our country needs more brave leaders like David Huerta to stand up for the wrongs they see around them."

Medicaid is single payer. Alot of the consternation about sustainable single payer is how to pay for it. I think this kind of tax can be seen as part of that.

I'd contend that labor reform both is an inside and outside strategy. Stronger unions directly address a lot of what ails us and enable progress on a lot of the rest. Having been thru efca/aca etc I fear that agendas that aren't specific here are taking space away from labor

i'm seeing calls for a national primary. I think it would make candidates more reliant on big money. preventing lesser funded candidates from being able to catch fire. And a longer primary provides for a learning process both for candidates and the electorate.

Fixing the labor laws should be part of any agenda to restore a healthy democracy. Strong unions both help directly with many of the imbalances of power, and they make it easier to acconplish the other goals

I thought it was weak tea on labor & unions. The higher ed section talked about democratizing governance w/idea that unions would help ensure faculty voice w/o mentioning how in many states faculty lack right to bargain. Not everything needs to be about my concerns, but a liberal agenda needs unions

Cinematically, it was another F-5 in 1986, and Tom Cruise shot it down, bailing out Iceman. (This is silly, but its really weird that the Iranians are in fact still using, effectively, the actual plane used to portray the Mig in a 1986 movie)

This is the already aging fighter that they were using to simulate the Russians in the original Top Gun. You watched Tom Cruise shoot it down in 1986. They also have a locally developed variant, so the air frame might be newer, but this is a 50+ year old plane
