As both a certified CAR GUY and an economist-ish, I cannot imagine a headline more designed to drive me, personally, insane. This "flying car" technology is neither new nor novel. It is not practical and would not sell. Let me tell a story of actually useful car tech that never made it to market.

Ah well you’ve given me permission now… first up the “ orange/not orange” gene is in the X chromosome and cats like many other mammals display a fairly random x inactivation so if you are female and have one orange and one not orange gene you end up with patches of both ( tortoiseshell )

It's deluded linked-in speak to fill space. What does "Finally, evaluation must evolve beyond performative box-ticking to values-based rigour." actually mean? How do you measure "values-based rigour"? Nevermind, sounds good.

As well as recycling old tropes, stating the vaguely obvious as profound ("use smarter tools, universities!), this article seems to be in cloud cuckoo land about what universities can realistically afford.

The classification of pre-92 unis into research intensive and not seems nebulous. The REF is not perfect, but if a distinction was really needed for the analysis, a REF-based metric might have been fairer.

Some decent recommendations in the report. Many of these were actually implemented in our WelIcome DTP, like the support for masters programmes in a 1+4 idea. But it is difficult to reconcile geographic variation in research funding with equality in PGR training.

Agreed, but more than this. Judicial murder justifies killing as retribution.

Ed Hollox @edhollox.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
That's really not helpful. Murder is a crime, and should be prosecuted. The point being, misogyny meant that previous crimes were left unprosecuted, and the sentence for this crime was cruel, vindictive and wrong.
